I have been hooping for about a year now and have been thinking A LOT about buying a fire hoop.  I've never fire hooped, but I imagine I would absolutely love it and it would take me to a whole new level of hooping.  I have been doing a lot of research on different kinds of fire hoops (if you have any suggestions about what kind to buy, please share!) and all the safety precautions that one must take and in the midst, I've read a lot about how much hoopers are loving their fire hoops and the experience.  So my question is this - has anyone ever tried fire hooping and NOT liked it?  If so, why?

Thanks & HAPPY HOOPING! <3

I have the same issue!  I have started doing breaks with my fire hoop, and wihle it is only a 33", I find that the weight of the wicks cause it to wobble quite a bit (tis polypro also)....not to say I don't enjoy it, but I love the way you put it "does not feel as organic and natural"

I haven't tried fire yet. I feel like some people are really about fire, others about hooping and fire is a bonus. I'm a Pisces, water based sign. I see myself more drawn to aerial hoops (lyra) than to fire (although I haven't had a chance to try either, I'm just seeing what LOOKS like my kind of thing, and what looks like it'd be fun to try but not to like OWN) I definitely would like to get some quick wicks at some point for the versatility of them and what not. I have run across people afraid or not wanting to do it, but I haven't yet seen anyone thats done it and been like "eh, fire hooping...I didn't like it" I'll be interested to see other responses to this :)
i would rather use a normal hoop i guess, cuz the extra appendages kind of bother me. i feel i could do alot better stuff in performances if i wasnt thinking about trying not to grab the spokes or something, even though it barely feels like anything if you bump one, but they are kind of limiting in general i find. my first one was insanely huge, then i got overjealous in my downsizing and the new featherlight is really really small. i probably just have to get more used to it. , its a great adrenaline rush. go for the flexible spokes so you dont have to live in fear of dropping it.

it's such a rush...i love it! i'm always down to burn...it sets my soul ablaze :)

although on the other hand, i do have a friend who won't fire hoop. she bought her led from trick concepts, and that hoop arrived with some info on fire hoops, and apparently they cause birth defects? so she's anti-fire...

but i'd definitely recommend trying it at least once!

what do you mean by birth defects? From the gas, smoke or the hoop it's self?
On the camping fuel can there is a warning that it contains chemicals that have been known to cause cancer and birth defects. I would imagine that's what they're talking about. I think you would have to get it all over you and not wash it off or something for that to happen though.

From the fuel. From what I can find out, it seems to be the inhalation of the fumes more than actually getting the fuel on your skin that raises the chances of birth defects.

Of course, that's all it does is raise the chances, not guarantee a negative outcome. It's the same thing if you're a woman who's exposed to ANY kind of chemical solvents on a regular basis. This forum addresses it a little, though they're talking more about what to do WHILE pregnant.

I would still definitely be down to try fire hooping - and I'm not trying to scare anyone away from it! - but it's not something I would want to get into on a regular basis personally, or get my own... that Trick Concepts manual with all the warnings about fire hooping gave me a good scare haha. My au naturelle hoop is enough for me :)

I have a friend that wears a respirator to fire hoop and perform pregnant.
I've never tried fire hooping and have NO DESIRE to ever try it (or even be within 30 feet of somebody doing it). Of course, I'm TERRIFIED of fire and can't even light a match! Being forced to hold sparklers as a kid was a terrifying ordeal for me. I'm quite happy sticking with LED hoops.
Same here! I like watching someone perform with a fire hoop from a distance.
But doing it myself: no. No no no! :)

I won't even try it. I hate fire, it scares the hell out of me.

I don't like it as much. It's popular for gigs, pays well etc...

And, I'll usually burn if my flow fam is... but I contact the outside of my hoop so much in my style of hooping that the spines irritate the crap out of me.

I do a lot of pinch breaks still with it.. but even so... not really my thing.
