I have been hooping for about a year now and have been thinking A LOT about buying a fire hoop.  I've never fire hooped, but I imagine I would absolutely love it and it would take me to a whole new level of hooping.  I have been doing a lot of research on different kinds of fire hoops (if you have any suggestions about what kind to buy, please share!) and all the safety precautions that one must take and in the midst, I've read a lot about how much hoopers are loving their fire hoops and the experience.  So my question is this - has anyone ever tried fire hooping and NOT liked it?  If so, why?

Thanks & HAPPY HOOPING! <3

definitely use someone elses fire hoop and try it out before dropping like $150 on your own. I have never fire hooped, but i personally dont think that I'd like it because you cant jam hard enough with it, you have to be so aware of how you're moving it or grabbing it so you dont get burned. I rage too hard to have fire anywhere near me lol

I have qualms with fire-hooping because of the resources. For some reason, dipping wicks into gas and then lighting them on fire for recreational reasons seems a little weird to me.  I LOVE watching fire performers, and I have even done it myself. But the whole time there is this little voice in the back of my head saying "what are you doing? why are you wasting gas like this?"  I mean, I'm weird though, I have the same feeling when I get in a car. But just something I think about.

me too!

I love fire... I have been spinning fire poi for almost 3 years, and am extremely comfortable with it. But when it comes to hooping, I am much more reluctant to light up... partially because I want a 33" with 4 small wicks, and the only fire hoop I have to practice on is a 30" with 5 massive wicks... it's scary as hell and I would much rather play with an LED hoop pretty much any day... I'm sure that will change once I have a fire hoop of my own, but for the time being I do not really enjoy it... I feel like it takes all the fun out of it for me... I can't do any of my favorite tricks with a tiny ass hoop moving at the speed of light, fire whipping around me... yuck. It's the exact opposite for poi, but I feel like there is less fire involved, and I am better at spinning poi than I am at hooping... I hope I can transfer my fire love to the hoop sometime though... all in due time I'm sure.

I've got a trinity fire hoop but I use it most as minis. I like just using the fire hoop unlit though, I couldn't say why. It might have something to do with my wick covers being bright freckin pink.

It takes talent and skill that I don't exactly have to move the fire minis around my body the way I want and I feel like it looks cool regardless of whether or not they're on fire. And someday after I've logged a number of hours practicing I might light them on fire and they'll look really cool...

Until I light myself on fire and have to stop drop and roll. ._.

I know you will love to fire hoop. But like most other posts have it tends to change your style just a little bit! But thats okay because it will take your to a whole other level of hooping. Do you know anyone with a fire hoop? I tried my friends first before I decided on investing in one. I purchased mine from Sacred Flame and it is absolutely amazing! The wicks are made to bend a little so they won't break if you drop it. Practice with it not on fire often and you can experiment with all kinds of tricks :)

I'm terrified of fire, so I'll probably never fire hoop.

While I think it's really pretty, I find actually fire hooping to be tedious, boring, and insanely stressful. I wish I had NOT bought fire gear and saved that money for a crazy epic LED hoop to add to my collection.

Fire hooping does definitely require you to be very attentive to spine location and things of that sort, because no one wants to pop a reversal and get a ball of flame in their arm pit (or worse).

All that said, pretty much every other hooper I've interacted with during the fire jams swear by fire and pretty much won't spin anything else.

It's such a relief to see I'm not the only one who finds fire to conflict with their style! I do still enjoy fire hoop. My first fire hooping experience was shockingly exhilarating and after that I was hooked on fire for the adrenaline rush, but there are just so many moves that don't seem to work with the wicks getting in the way. There are ways to do breaks/reversals, but not the kind that I most like (rolling it across the body or twisting my arms around), and even for moves that I can tweak, I have to bend my body at funny angles and pay such close attention that I can't just flow like usual. I've only been fire hooping for a few months, so I haven't tried more than the moves I'm absolutely sure I can translate to fire while actually lit. Recently I've been trying to practice more with my fire hoop unlit, but I find I just keep knocking into the wicks, so it's frustrating. I prefer non-fire hooping, but fire is great for performance, especially if you're outdoors at night when it's cold :)
