Yes. If your hard drive is full this can effect your ram (working memory).

Try either deleting some things or buying an external hard drive to store some of your files that you want to keep but don't need on a regular basis.

Thanks SaFire... I already have an external hard drive that I put everything on except Apps and itunes (although I DO have a lot of music now...)
Thought you might be interested to hear I think I solved the problem, it seems that the recording stopped 'jumping' when my laptop was plugged into the mains... I have no idea why it might do this but it seemed to do the trick!
I will definitely check out the blog though, right away!

i had not thought about recording that way...
thanks for the idea..!!
i will play around with my imovie later and see if i can figure it out..
this place rocks..i learn things not related directly to hooping too..
