I might be a little bit premature asking this, but have any of you started a hooping class (like a regular couple days a week class at a gym..or your own gym) and what did you do to get there?

I so badly want people to be fit, happy, and be able to inspire them! I am so motivated, I know that I can make it happen I just want the steps that any of you might have taken.  I feel like i have met my calling.

I started teaching classes at our local Kaiser Permenente office after one of my friends (and a KP employee) recruited me to do it. I had given my friend one on one instruction at our local community jams and she liked my teaching methods. I then did a free performance at a KP event and won over a lot of their employees :) The classes have been a big hit and I now teach 3 days a week at different Kaiser facilities.

I also hold public classes at a local dance studio twice a week. There was a lot of interest generated from my KP classes from people that were not apart of the program so it was good motivation to create a class that was accessible to everyone. I found a local dance studio that was reasonably priced to rent.

I've also given more kid focused or 'mommy and me' type classes in our area. Offering free classes or events can really help you promote other ones. You can approach local libraries, family resource centers, and community centers and offer to do a free workshop or organize a hoop jam in your area. If you want to focus on working with kids you can also approach schools and do a performance at an assembly or offer an afterschool workshop.

There was also a recent post on how hooper's can find gigs: http://www.hoopcity.ca/forum/topics/6-great-ways-for-hoopers-to-fin... Some of those tips may be helpful to you too.

A lot of places do require you to have some sort of certification (I'm certified through Hoopnotica) as well as liability insurance (which you can get as part of your renter's insurance package) and if you work through your local county there is often even more paper work to deal with.
But spreading hoop love is definitely worth it imo :)

thats awesome, congrats girl!! how long have you been hooping for?
