I was realizing today how many basic tricks with the hoop I either never learned or never figured out.  For example I can't do the Helicopter for the life of me and I have watched several video tutorials on it, I just haven't been able to get it.  Another one I can not do is the behind the back elbow pass.  Two very simple moves I have never learned or spent much time trying to learn.   Does anyone else have any tricks that they either skipped in the learning process, never could figure out, or just didn't care to learn or try ?

barrell rolls are something i'm terrible at. I've attempted learning them a few times, but never try too hard and don't keep it up.
I'm trying to learn chest hooping and hooping in the opposite direction (than I'm used to).  Those are two things I wish I'd  learned when I first started learning to hoop because it feels weird to be learning them now.
I don't know if it's basic but I can't do a 3 beat weave to save me life.
I just learned!  With two beat your constantly holding on to each hoop, with three beat it's not only arm and wrist work it now incorporates finger working as well!  It's nuts.
Definitely not basic for your brain!  The 3 beat weave was the loooongest move for me to learn, but so satisfying when it finally clicks (after like 3 weeks).
I can do the behind the back elbow pass, but only if I'm standing up straight - can't do the "bunny ear pass" which is the exact same move except you are bent over with elbows straight up in the air.  Honestly I got tired of not getting it so I quit trying.  There are enough moves that I'm always forgetting to throw something in anyway, so I'm not too sad about not having that one :)
I'm still to scared to do the bunny ear pass, I always hit myself
I'm with you there, the leaning down elbow pass is quite difficult! I have yet to even get close to nailing it for some reason.

Me too.   Thats the one move over the last three years that has frustrated me the most.

I've been hooping 2 years now and for the first time ever, tried the vertical step through this weekend- while I do think it looks silly, I finally got it and never want to do it again- just one I never wanted to learn :)  sometimes it takes moving beyond a specific move and coming back a long time later... Bunny pass was one of those for me.  Had to give in and move on and come back to get it down a few months later.

The vertical step through felt funny for me too at first, but I discovered that it looks cool if you slow way down (almost in slow-mo) to step through it at a slow part of the song.

I'm terrible at the helicopter too! I usually end up throwing my hoop across the room. I never even try to do it anymore I never even think about it.
