lol of course they should not be deemed stupid, there are thousands upon thousands of books in the world to read! however, I suppose that BBC has for their own reasons claimed that these 100 are among the most "important", how they determined this I don't know. Someone mentioned that most of these books have been on TV or made into a movie... :\
And yeah, even if you don't 'read at all it doesn't mean you're stupid either.
But I'm pleased to see how many of us hoopers are also avid readers <3

I think alot (not all) of these books were part of the BBCs top 100 books for their "The big read" program, might have something to do with that.

The thing about books getting made into movies... usually, those are the ones that somebody thinks are important. (There are a lot of crap movies, but the ones from books are different, in most cases.)

I've read about 30 books from this list. Some of them are my favourites and I've read them several times. Others were a total waste of time for me. For example, I think I'll never understand the phenomenon of The Little Prince. There are also some titles I'd love to read but couldn't find them anywhere just yet.

One of my favourite books is "Popular music form Vittula" by Mikael Niemi and I would recommend it to anyone! I got many people to read it and so far every single one of them loved it. It's a bittersweet story about growing up, so be prepared to laugh and to cry.

The Hobbit - I actually can't stand Tolkien, even though I have a necklace with a Tolkien quote that I never take off

The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - I read the entire series, actually
The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
Winnie the Pooh
The Secret Garden
A Christmas Carol
Charlotte’s Web
Watership Down
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - I've read most of Roald Dahl's books!

Why the heck isn't Wrinkle in Time on this list? Or Fahrenheit 451? Nothing by Terry Pratchett?
And while I'm complaining (angry Yahtzee picture here), why the sweet acid dropping monkeys is Da Vinci Code on this list?

yeah I think we can all agree that the only people that BBC proved uneducated were themselves, at least here on hoopcity anyway. they totally forgot about wrinkle in time. So did I actually. I need to read that book again. what's the quote on your necklace say?

Probably, most of these books were the ones the authors thought of off the tops of their heads.
