so I have always called hoopers well hoopers but I have noticed people that are starting to hoop in the az rave scene are calling them hoopettes Im might be weird but it sounds weird to me haha mayeb because Im use to saying hoopers but anyways! I was wondering for you guys do you hear that alot and is there any other names people call hoopers?
I have not heard that before. I tend to prefer gender=neutral language. I find it more inclusive. Plus, to me, feminizing a word is often a way of marginalizing that word. Take poet and poetess, for example. To me, to call someone a poetess is the same as calling them "Poet Lite", a version of a poet, only with a vagina...and I'm not keen on that. I don't think this marginalization applies to all languages (many romance languages consider their words to have a gender) but I do feel like it applies to English as it's spoken in the U.S. I, personally, would rather be an actor than an actress, a comedian than a comedienne, etc.
I've heard hoopers, hula hoopers and hoopdancers. I consider myself a hooper and a hoopdancer.
