I like fairy pants and an empire waist top- I am a size 14 and do not want to show off my mid section! I also think coin belts would interfere with the hoop.

You could always wear one of the pretty bellydance bra/bikini tops over a tank top. I saw a video once where someone did that, so she was still pretty covered while wearing something super cute up top :) It looked great.

 belly dancers pride them selves in having curves and being plump so i say be proud of what you got! many bellydancers that are skinny are not the ideal bellydancers because they just dont have much to shake so as long as you know that you are beautiful inside and out ppl well see your beauty aswell!

Maybe I should've been a little more specific. Oops! Aha.

By bellydance costume, I mean anything that has the Middle Eastern style to it. I mostly see it with coins, but these would be bothersome. Would small beaded chains draped across the front of the bra get in the way, or should those be fine?

I think I'll definitely wear a tank top under a pretty bra.
