10 lbs sounds really heavy for a hoop? But im also new at this. 4 months almost

its 5IIbs the hoop i have :)

oops. yeh i misread that .
realized after i posted lol

Hehe its quite heavey still so I cant wait to get my new one :)

5lbs is still really heavy and be careful with any tricks around your face so you don't hurt yourself. I had a 3 pound hoop at one point and it felt like a ton of bricks. You can actually do damage to your back if the hoop is going fast and is heavy.

I would recommend making a hoop with tubing from your local hardware supply store. There are also lots of excellent hoop makers on Etsy that would all be comparable for a first hoop. 2 of my friends have Hoop Mama's and they like them.

A lot of people choose to start with a 42" diameter 3/4" 160PSI hoop but there is no hard and fast rule.

I recommend trying lots of different hoops.Your preferences will probably change as you progress.

I am making my own hoops but do love my Hoopnotica travel hoop. It is 2 to 3 pounds and it comes apart. I have made 5 hoops that I am taping up now. I am able to waist hoop , hip hoop and hoop above my head with the hypnotica hoop. My daughter had a heavy hoop and I found it hard to work with. You might want to try the Hoopnotica Hoop until you get waist hooping down.  My Hoopnotica Hoop hits me right at my Belly Button. I am making 3/4 inch, 160 PSI hoops for myself. Good luck to you.
