i have a 5/8 tubing hoop that i would like to take a couple inches off of eventually. i dont want to buy the cutters for just one hoop. whats the best/easiest way to do that otherwise?

definitely pick up the cutters from lowes. they were 9 bucks & i made 11 hoops so far with no problems!
You could probably use some gardening or kitchen shears, the ones with the curved blade.
As everyone has said, pipe cutters are very cheap and also easy to find at local hardware stores. However, if that doesn't work out for some reason, I know that a saw will do the job.  Before I found out about pipe cutters (LOL), I used a saw to cut my tubing. It worked, but pipe cutters are definitely A LOT better.  When you use a saw, you get black little fringes all over the floor, which makes a mess.
