Soooo I'm going to get my first poly pro. On one website it said that taping the hoop will throw off the weight or something to that extent. Then on another website they sell "cable ribbons" (they go inside your hoop so you can change colors -cool!) wouldn't this also throw off the hoop in the same way the tape would? Any thoughts are appreciated! Much love.

Permalink Reply by LiviJoyHoops on June 22, 2012 at 3:46pm oops! I lost my first response! I have heard that decorative tape will make polypro less responsive...and that it will ADD weight. Cable ribbons sound really cool. I am curious about them myself. Alternatively to putting them inside, you can run them outside of the hoop (like a sleeve) to give it texture, instead of sanding it or using gaffers tape. The material is woven nylon, so it's kinda like a net. I would probably be a little bit grippy! maybe?
something different is always exciting!
Permalink Reply by Jane "Electric Blue" on June 23, 2012 at 1:27am The cable will add weight but that material is so light that i doubt you would notice it particularly compared to a layer of tape. You could also use the lighter foil type tapes as they don't add as much weight as gaffers or electrical tape.

Permalink Reply by Beth on June 29, 2012 at 5:41pm Did you see them on Hoop Supplies? They are all really pretty and I am also considering getting it. Tape will make a polypro wonky from what I hear and know. But the netting is super lightweight and evenly distributed so should not be an issue. Let us know what you think after you buy it!

Here's why:
They are not easy to get inside the hoop. Maybe if you got some practice it would be easier, but I had to tie a string on one end and a safety pin on the other and slide it into the hoop while rotating it until it came out the other end. - I emailed cust service asking the best way and they did not respond.
They don't go on the outside of 3/4 diam poly pro - I think - like I said, cust service did not email me back. I tried to put it on the outside to get a different effect but I think its only meant for the 5/8 because I could only get it on a couple of inches then it wouldn't budge!
You can still see the connector. because of the tight fit, the connector just pushes the coil ribbon. I got my hoop from Discount Hoop supply and they give you a random color of connector (mine is blue) so you can still see it.
The ends fray. So if you pull it out and switch colors its all messed up, and I can see it easily getting destroyed each time.
Overall the effect is lack-luster. Once you get it in there and see it through the milky natural pro poly its kinda hard to see.
Hey it's a great idea, but I'm not extremely fond of it. It's not totally bad, but I won't be buying anymore.
