I don't know if it's just me, but I've been noticing recently that the overall attitudes of some on Hoop City is changing, and not for the better. When I first joined Hoop City a year ago, it was an atmosphere of welcoming and love for the hoop and expressing one's love for hoop dance. It just seems to me that lately people are starting to get a bit meaner, and straying from the overall point of Hoop City, which is coming together to bond over the love of hooping. I just feel like people need to step back a bit and think about what Hoop City really stands for. It stands as a place where hoopers of all ages and from anywhere in the world can come together to share their stories, videos, trials and tribulations within the hoop. It isn't about putting others down or concentrating on negativity. It's about the positive energy that you get from hooping. My best friend put it wonderfully when she said, Safire didn't create the site just so that she could gain connections in the hoop community, she has plenty of connections on her own. She made it for us, so that we could come together and bond over that love and when we stray from that, we're straying from the reason for Hoop City.
Anyone else notice this trend or is it just me?

The only negative thing I've seen was people dissing "certified hoop teacher instructor trainings" and "hoop brands" ie Hoopnotica, Hoopgirl, BodyHoops, et al. They think that hoop brands are bad for hooping and taking a hoop instructor class is just greedy.

Although I don't think they understand that some of these hoop brands bring new people to the hoop. I've seen a few stories of people who started out wanting to hoop by seeing HoopGirl on some television show and buying her DVD. Is that bad? No. Having hoop brands like BodyHoops and HoopGirl gets personal trainers to teach hooping classes which is spreading hoop love. In my area, there are not very many hooping classes and a very small hooping community.
I agree with you Shannon. I've been hooping for less than a month and what got me interested in it was seeing Rayna from Hoopnotica on Youtube. She's crazy good! She not only shows you how to hoop, but shows that you can add sensuality to your movements, how to add your own brand of spirit and spunk into your dancing.  And the HoopGirl beginner dvd I think is a great way to start learning technique as well. The hoopers in these dvds are pretty much the only way I can learn. There's ONE hooping class where I live. THAT'S IT! (and it's not one that I can make it to!!!) So I love my dvds, youtube instruction, and hooping sites like these.
It might have something to do with the overall attitude of the world. Everyone is stressed, and everyone is poor, and war doesn't make anyone happy. Its a messed up world, but I agree about the change. I just want to see some more love! :D
