I am currently working on chest hooping (among other things) and I figured "What the heck!" and ask:  For those that can, how easy or how difficult was it for you to learn how to do?  Also, any tips would be very helpful (I am trying to "shimmy" but my "shimmy" won't...you know..."shimmy!")  Those that are still learning like I am...I'd appreciate hearing from you as well!  Thanks in advance!

UPDATE 5/16/10!!!:  I am practicing "Pulse" (HoopGirl method) where you start hooping on your waist and then just shake your body like Jell-O and...lo and behold-the hoop goes up to my chest!  I can't quite get it to stay there as of yet, but I think I'm making progress!  Just wanted to keep you updated!!  Thank you all for the the advice and encouragement!

UPDATE 6/04/10!!!:  I've had an "A-HA!" moment with chest hooping!  I was actually able to keep it up on my chest for 10 revolutions before I let it drop down to my waist; It really takes a lot out of you!  No wonder Hoopnotica said on her DVD that chest hooping will "make you sweat!"  (her words!)  I've been doing a lot of back exercises in the AM/PM and I feel like my back has opened up...a lot!  Now I just need to establish some rhythm and build my stamina!  Thank you all for the responses and encouragement!  I'll be in touch!

UPDATE 7/07/10!!!:  It's getting easier and easier to keep it up on my chest!  Now it's all about keeping the momentum going so I can achieve flow.  For those of you that are new to chest hooping, it can be (very!) challenging to learn, but it's well worth the effort!  And you can't beat the calorie burn!  Thank you all so much for your tips, advice, and encouragement!  I'll be in touch!

UPDATE 12/02/10!!!: It's official!! I CAN CHEST HOOP NOW!! Of course it's in my first flow, which is clockwise...now I have to learn it in my "humbling" flow counterclockwise!! Now I am easing into shoulder and neck hooping. I haven't felt this good since I accomplished my first corkscrew and vortex! Thank you all for your words of encouragement! Winter's coming, but I am more excited than ever about my hoop practice! WOO-HOOP!!!

You must be one of the lucky ones! Chest hooping is a challenge for many (or so I've heard...) Thanks for responding.
Chest hooping is ridiculously hard to me. I have just started a few days ago, but I am having a super hard time figuring out how to do this. I can shimmy kinda okay, but chest hooping to me is sooooo hard with arms it looks soo horrible and without arms the hoops simply falls off...it just doesn't work. Seeing all the experts do it like nothing makes me appreciate the move even more, because I know how hard it is to me. Hopefully I will get it. It does take practice. Practice makes a good chest hooper :P

Good luck! Hopefully we will hear from you telling us how awesome you are at chest hooping, then you can give us all some tips!! :P
That's the plan, Kelly! It's good to know that I'm not alone in the struggle. I'll keep everybody posted. Thanks for responding!
I am still stuck on this move and trying not to get discouraged. I can shimmy the hoop up but when it gets there I somehow grab it ad lift it up. I can get one arm in but I seem to lose it. I have started on my neck, put the arm in and even got the shoulders in,,then 2 rounds and I lose it. It looks so easy ...but it doesn;t quite work like that! I'll keep trying.....
I just keep tellin' myself that it's really all about the journey/experience. I think it's one of those moves that when the "A-HA!" moment occurs, it'll happen! In the meantime, you can't beat the calorie burn!! It takes a lot of energy and work!!
Im stuck with the same thing!!!
I am a work still in progress! For some reason, I can't do SaFire's "shimmy" move to save my life! I do like moving my (upper) body like Jell-O and feelin' the hoop move up! You may want to try that; just shake-shake-shake it and the hoop should move up. Do it 10-20X movin' the hoop up and then let it fall back down to your waist. You may not have the momentum to keep it on your chest, but you cannot beat the calorie burn! Feel free to keep me posted on your progress...you may be schoolin' me on this!
I'm also having some problems with chest hooping with my arms in. I can do the shimmy but, then, hooping is very hard! I'm trying to do the "push forward-backward" movement and it helps me a bit, but maybe it's a wrong movement because all the other hoopers are suggesting to move in a circle...I don't know =)
I don't do the circle thing either. I go either forward and back, or side to side. If it works I don't think that there is a "wrong" movement. I think that everyone is going to have their own little ways of doing various things. Sometimes it is neat to try to do something exactly like someone else, for the challenge, but, really, we all have different bodies and different minds - and there is more than one way to do just about anything...
I haven't learned the chest hooping with my arms in yet. It's all I can do to keep the friggin' hoop on my chest! Remember what SaFire said about the square peg (body) fitting inside a circle (hoop). Maybe this visual can help (you've probably heard this one before): Pretend that you're using the sides of your body to paint the inside of a barrel. There's also something about a "leading arm/shoulder" that helps push the hoop while the other does nothing. Whichever direction you hoop in will help you determine which arm/shoulder you lead with. "Cat/Cow" stretches help out A LOT as well!! Enjoy the journey!
This is encouraging thanks! I have felt stuck for a while now but I am determined to get this down!
