Hello Hooper,  Have you ever worked on a move that you just have to get but it just doesn't happen?  Well that me right now with Chest hooping.  Everything flow well while I turn with the hoop.  As soon as I stand still with my arms inside the hoop it collapses.  What am I doing wrong?  How did you learn this move?  Please help.

I'm definitely doing even pushes in front and back, but I feel like I'm pushing the most on my right side, which is also where I'm shoving the hoop with my arm. I hoop to the left, so if you're a right hooper you'll be shoving with your left arm.
I agree with this! I just got shoulder hooping while still the other day.. I started out with my 40", spinning in a circle, then just slowly stopped until I was able to keep it up while I was standing still. Only a few days later, and I'm able to keep it there for a while with my 34" 1/2" tubing hoop :)
I was just thinking about about making a thread about this xD  having the same problem
Let me know when you get it down ;)
When I was learning chest hooping, my teacher emphasized a kick from your arm. What happens is when the hoop hits the arm opposite of the way the hoop flows, for me I hoop left so my right arm, it kicks the hoops from the inside. Hard to explain writing wise, sorry. But try without your hoop and do chest rolls. You might notice how going the way your hoop flows you seem to put more emphasis in that motion. For me it is the right front corner. So when my chest roll hits that corner I use my upper body to put more force into that move. What might also help is watching belly dancing and their chest isolation. That is, on a basic level, what we are accomplishing.
I'm going to try everything you've suggested thank you so much for the tips.
Is it normal to look really really awkward when first learning how to chest hoop? Because I'm having this same problem with the keeping it up while standing still, but also, when I turn with it I just look SO funny/awkward because I'm over exaggerating every move. Will this get better over time?

Pretty much. I've got a video of me learning to chest hoop during my first month or so of hooping and I look sooooo unattractive doing it. It's sort of awful to watch. Have a laugh—I'll post it! :) It's about a minute in. Hehehe. Actually... a LOT of it is painfully awkward looking.

so this is pretty much where i am right now lol .
Hey!! I read this a few days ago, and have been have the same problem but i think i literally just found the SOLUTION!!! I think someone else said it's best to keep your legs kind of wide and bend down a bit while chest hooping with arms inside standing still.. If you best down, legs wide-ish, and kind of rock back and forth with your legs, it REALLY helps the momentum, and gives it an extra oomph! worked for me! it's kind of a whole body thing, and looks a little funny but i think it's one step closer! i  hope this helps!!

I have a follow-up question: how does one chest hoop elegantly?  I've noticed that in a lot of more advanced hoopers' videos, they're able to chest hoop without much obvious movement.  I've been working on this for a couple of months and I still have to use very exaggerated movements to keep the hoop up - I look like I'm trying to do cat-cow standing up!

Advice??

I'm still trying to understand that myself.  They do it so effortless.  I can't wait to get this one down.
