Hoop City - Hooping Community - a space for hoopers

I would love to see more people doing the hoop flow challenges! They aren't about competing against each other with the best tricks or moves. They are about having fun and expanding your own horizons within hooping! My November Challenge for yourself is about loosing inhibitions and really gettin down with how your feeling and what your expressing!

1) First pick a message...this could be an emotion your feeling (happy, sad, angry, funny) or an experience you have recently been through (marriage, birth, death) ANYTHING you want to focus on or just release through your hooping. This is what dancing is great for = D

2) Explain what your message is in the description. This is like the warning label! It gives everyone watching the reason for acting anyway you want to in this video ;)

3) Dance Dance Dance! Transfer this message to your audience through your dancing or dropping or throwing or stomping with the hoop haha!

Below I attached my November video as an example! Love all of you wonderful hoopers! Mwuahhh!

So most people say you go through an identity crisis when your an adolescent but me .....its been happening all my life! I feel as though there is something about myself and other human beings that I haven't quite figured out. And when I do I will see everything in a new light :) seems crazy but this may be what keeps us alive.....some strange sense of knowing that there is more to life. I can taste it on the tip of my tongue! Im desperate yet strong to live to my full potential! So this is what I focused on while dancing (its my first take because I feel that, although it isn't perfect, it has the most power)!

Interesting challenge....and a beautiful, grace dance.

I need to film a new vid. before the sunny days are gone, but I'm going to have to think on this one for a while.

Well one part of your identity is clear to me - you're a dancer!

Thanks for posting this one, Nicole. :-) I participated in the October Flow Challange on my own... but never got around to video taping something to share with everyone. I hope to get this one done. It fits perfectly with something I've been meaning to do, anyway.

I love the idea. Can't wait to see everyone's work.

Oh and I think you were right to show the first take. That's the point of the challenge. It's about the exploration, not the perfection. :-)

That was beautiful. Love the song; love, love, love the hoopdance.

Ok, so I'm still going to make a video specifically for this but I wanted to share one I did in August. The comments I've received always mention how much emotion is in it so I figured I could share this one and then do one specially for this...is that ok? Tell me if it's not!

I made this video, "Parabol/Parabola in the Rain," after my friend Frankie died; actually, this was filmed the day after my small department was told at work and it had rained hard all day and this was the drizzley part that allowed me to hoop. I picked this song simply because of the phrase "Embrace this moment. Remember. we are eternal.
All this pain is an illusion."

Here's my YouTube description: "Real hoopers would hoop in the rain." -- a friend once told me when I wouldn't go hoop in the rain during lunch break. This is my memorial to my friend, who passed away this past weekend. We both happen to really like Tool and this song combination just ignites great emotion in me.

Wow. I got chills & goosebumps. "Go Tool, Go Frankie, & Go you, Kristen." This is too awesome. Those "emotions you were ignited with while hooping," I'm feeling it right now.

Communication Revelation = Creating Emotions: Personally, watching this video connected so many floating thoughts in my head. It confirmed in my mind how wonderful it can be to dedicate your hoop practice/jam/performance to something &/or SOMEONE specific. To me, it reinforces the thought of hoop dance being another form/interpretation of "praying" & "focused-meditating."

As for using a video you said you made in August, I think that's fine because you're simply utilizing previous material (videos) from your archive & applying it to something new; for example, this Hoop Challenge. Imagine if you would have disregarded it...

Plus, you commented that it was made previously so that's kosher. Maybe hoopers can keep in mind to comment whether or not they made the video specifically for the challenge, or if they're posting a video that was done previously because they feel it applies to whatever the concept is of the monthly Hoop Challenge (& explain why they're choosing that video in their description).

Seriously, I loved that I had the opportunity to watch this video applied to this concept: Communication Revelation = Creating Emotions

I can't wait to watch other stuff & see what other creative self-challenges hoopers will invent & share.

this was a very good dance! i got goosebumps and chills too. since i started hooping i found that it is very meditative, and i've often hooped spiritually for someone/something in particular. last month when i learned my biological father was dying i hoopdanced for him (in mind only, we have no relationship). i never felt closer to him tho, and for the short time i hooped for him i felt like we had a connection.

Hi, Kristen. I loved your hoopdance.

To you and all other hoopers; please, please, please don't feel the need to justify yourself in any way. Although I love watching the video submissions, the challenge isn't for the viewer, it is for the hooper. It's an opportunity to expand your consciousness. Whatever the challenge means to you, past, present, or future, then that is what the challenge is. When I posted the last one, the challenge turned into something totally different than I imagined, and it was awesome.

Keep the videos coming hoopers! You are inspiring others more than you know.
