Recently I've been toying with the idea of making some different kinds of hoops.  Shifting the focus from decorating the hoops with tape to decorating with other ideas (i.e. glitter, collages, faux fur/ribbon) and was interested to hear if anyone else has done this and had some tips or would like to share their 'experiment hoops'.
I am really looking for clear tubing.  The clearer (is that even a word?  lol) the better.  I have found the milky white tubing, but I can't find any that is just clear.  Any suggestions?

I keep threatening to do a collage hoop but it hasn't happened yet. But there was a thread on this before... I'll see if I can hunt it down. Had lots of cool ideas as I recall...
I have been wanting to macrame a hoop but haven't done it yet.
I macrame'd a hoop - a while ago. It took all one day (it is a large hoop). (It is macrame cord my mother in law had in her basement.) It has held up well & is in circulation in my hoop jams.
I made a 'rag' hoop or two. used knots and tying methods in those as well. All these hoops are heavy so certain people like them and others find them painful.
I made a feather hoop - an idea from a builder I met - drill holes all around the outside. I used pretty blue feathers & glue & stuck 'em in there. I had it at the Hoop Path retreat last year. It was barely hoop-a-ble. just an art piece.
I have a faux fur hoop. It is lined with tape on the inner rim and lined with fur on the outer rim. The fur reminds me of Sully from Monsters Inc/is uv reactant. I left the inner rim taped with grip in mind. The wind resistance and it being a 40'' hoop makes it an incredible work out and really pushes me to move like a snake. It is also fun to bring to raves and festivals. People get a kick out of it : )
the feather one sounds super neat
how were you able to get grip on one side and fur on the other? i am highly interested in contructing such a hoop
I've tried lots of things but one interesting one I'm still experimenting with is taking translucent tubing and pouring paint in the hoop and swishing it around. So it's got swirls of paint that can't rub off. Black light paint looks really cool. I'm not completely happy with the results yet but I keep trying stuff out - different paints - different amounts.
That sounds rad.
haha that's so funny....my guy friend just suggested doing that this weekend! it's a great idea!
Well you see it best on the flexi tubing because it's more clear - but I don't like hooping with that tubing. Also It changes as it dries so you think it is one thing but then just lean it the other way for a night and it is another. Like I said - still working on it.
if only there was a way to get completely CLEAR tubing for that!
