Is there a cheaper alternative to buying a fire hoop? Is it possible to make my own inexpensive version of a fire hoop?

Yes, yes, and no. There is tons of information at there you just have to put in a couple of hours to find it all. As for making your own fire hoop the cost adds up and time adds up faster than you think. So the "cheap" project you started with, is not so cheap after adding in time once your all said and done. If you don't have power tools it will make the process near impossible, and buying power tools is expensive Best "cheap" alternative is to purchase a used or partially used fire hoop.

A large part of figuring all this out is doing it without having wicks come flying off. I went through several models to get it right, and then had to test each new model for months under controlled conditions. You might not choose to go through this (since your not selling to anyone yet), but I can tell you that less than 10% of my initial models moved on to full use.

I guess whereI was going there is that when you sell them to someone else, you're never sure how they're going to get used. It's possible to make a "kinda janky" hoop for yourself as long as YOU know not to do *this* or *that*. But if it's going in some stranger's hands you have to plan for every practical contingency, which is a lot tougher of a build.
Permalink Reply by Shakti Sunfire on October 30, 2012 at 11:30am It took me years to refine the original Featherlight Cosmic Fire firehoop and the first few I made took literally 2 days, not to mention all the tools and materials I had to buy. Of course, eventually that got easier but when fire is involved, I would keep it simple and safe and go with the pros. My company, Synergy FlowArts continues to set standards that redefine the firearts industry. While Quick Wicks may seem expensive at first, they'll easily pay themselves off in quality and safety and they carry a warrantee that is unbeatable. I know first hand the level of craftsmanship and intention that go into every wick and every design. We're pretty anal about it - for a reason! LOVE and best of luck to you on your search!
