I want to know, should I purchase an actual legit Fire Blanket for fire hooping or will a blanket of natural fibers or a flame resistent childrens blanket that is pre dampened work?

I'd go with a fire blanket personally.  I had a wet towel that I left in my trunk and forgot about...yuck!  ;)  Plus, a fire blanket, you can fire spin any time without having to find water around.  They work great.

A good fire blanket is about $10...  Well worth it if you like spinnin the fire. :)

where can I get one for $10?

I'm not fire spinning with hoop (yet)...but my hubby used to spin fire devil sticks- until somebody lifted them. :( But he got his blanket from an army surplus store. It was pretty cheap.

Fire groove sells good quality fire blankets.  So does Trick Concepts. For hoopers, your wicks are very small compared to many other fire props, so you won't need a huge blanket.  $10 for 36" x 28" blanket..  :)

Do any stores ell the fire blankets or do you have to order online?

It has been my experience that you get what you pay for with fire blankets. I have had several cheap fire blankets fail on me. Not good! I have always just used a damp towel, but if you have the money to buy a nice fire blanket, do it.

Get those old rough wool blankets.  You know they come dark grey usually, and look like something the army would use in barracks Like the above example there (it is actually an Italian army blanket that one).  You can pick them up super cheap at second hand stores.  Is this what people mean by fire blanket?  Have one to put out your hoop and one to put out people that doesn't get fuel on it.  This is what we do, and it works well (not that we've had to put out people knock on wood and praise Jeebus).

The wise Caroleeena also recommends wool blankets.  She has a very detailed journal entry of all the do's & don't of fire spinning.  I highly recommend reading it -it covers just about anything you would want to know =)

Ooo thanks for the link! This exactly what I needed.

Wow, just finished reading and what a truly excellent resource!!! Everyone, READ IT!

ive heard you can get steam burns with wet blankets, and duvetynes are relatively inexpensive too, definitely something you should have if you plan to light up alot.  theyre only like 15 bucks from TC i believe.

Yes, watch for the steam with wet blankets! If you go that route, make sure they are mildly damp, not soaking wet.
