I know there are lots of fire eaters out there, do any of you have any advice/videos for someone who is eager to learn? Honestly, I'm a little scared of putting fire down my throat.. haha. but I think it will be an awesome and fun addition to my performances.
So if anyone has any info for me i'd love to know:) and it would be greatly appreciated<3

Get someone to teach you.
If you must learn on your own, use Carisa's DVD to help

I watched all of these videos on Home of Poi 2-3 times before eating fire for the first time and I think they are extremely helpful. http://www.homeofpoi.com/lessons_all/teach/Library-Fire-Eating-18_0_0 My first time, I did it with a friend who was already an experienced fire eater. Eating fire is so much fun! I've burned my lips, tongue, and roof of my mouth a few times, but the burns aren't too painful and go away within a few days.

I'll have to find someone who already knows how to eat fire in my area..
Permalink Reply by Ashley Rodriguez on July 28, 2012 at 6:40am you're so lucky to have someone who does it locally! I'm the only one this far south! It is one of the most amazing things I've ever done in my life. Very spiritual, as corny as it sounds.

If you can't find anyone, I second Tedward's recommendation to get Carisa's DVD. She's quite thorough and very well respected in the fire community for teaching people.
I was lucky enough to be taught my Carisa in person. She's an amazing teacher and a lovely person to boot. So I would recommend her dvd as well, but I still think it's best to be taught by somebody in person.
With regards to piercings, I'm not too sure about it personally but I have a plastic retainer and I have eaten fire with it in and it was fine. I won't do prolonged tooth holds with the retainer in though, but it's fine to hold the torch in for a while to do a vapour trick. Hasn't melted on me yet....I think your tongue ring will be fine. The fire isn't in your mouth for that long to get that hot.
To make yourself comfortable, start with basic hand tricks like trailing. Then putting the fire onto your tongue while it's out, try some tongue transfers. Just get comfortable with it, then start eating it.
I wasn't even able to strike a match and light a candle I was so scared of fire...you just get over it with time and perseverance! :) Good luck!
