I was just curious. For those of you who fire hoop, how long did you hoop sans-fire before you picked up a flaming hoop of awesomeness? For those who haven't yet, when do you plan to if at all?

I haven't started fire hooping YET, but I plan to as soon as I win one from the 12 days of give away!!! :) *wishing wishing wishing*
I also have never fire hooped. I think it would be awesome though. I really want a fire staff to spin as well. Good luck on the 12 days!!
Thanks Mason! You too.
I believe I had been hooping for about a year before I picked up a "flaming hoop of awesomeness" I really like how you put that :-D I fell in LOVE!!! It is fantastic. You really don't have to even have been hooping for a year to do fire hooping, as long as you are comfortable and can limit yourself to doing moves you know you have down you can absolutely fire hoop :-D
I always suggest waiting till you have been at a steady hoop size to buy one though, just so that you don't buy one that is too heavy and then a few months later wish you got a lighter one. But that is only my suggestion. Other than that ROCK It! And post your first fire hooping video for us to all see hehehe
Awesome. Really good advice. I never really thought about being sure of your hoop size before buying a fire hoop, but it makes perfect sense. I've also seen quick wicks, which seem to be a very interesting idea. Thanks!
I've had a chance to spin fire twice and am hoping to get my own quick wicks for xmas. The first time I spun I had only been hooping about a year and didn't really do much more than waist hooping and a few vortex's for fear of losing some hair but I can't wait to get my own think I'm placing an order tonight :)
Very cool. I just saw quick wicks the other day and thought they looked great. Do you know anyone who has tried them? Are they any less stable than a fully assembled fire hoop or pretty much the same?
I've just had them recommended to me by a friend who hoops and attends festivals so she gets to try alot of toys. I'm not sure if she's used them before but after talking to shakti when her fire hoop got a burn hole she is getting quick wicks (her hoop only had 2-3 in. spines which is why it burnt). I love the idea of being able to put them on any hoop plus if the hoop does get damaged you still have usable wicks instead of having to replace a whole fire hoop. Also if you're on a budget you can buy a few at a time and add more later. I also looked at the online reviews and nothing negative so far everyone "loves" them!
That is really good to know! Thanks a lot. Interesting about the hoop burning. Length isn't something I had considered.
Yay! I first picked up fire about a year after I started hooping. I have to Agree with Laura Baila up there.. Well said doll! That is the key.. you need to know your hoop. Be comfortable with what you know and dont over exert yourself. you do have to be more careful, of course! :) Wear a bandanna over your head, or wet your hair, that ensures that you will not burn it. I have been told that if you put olive oil in your hair. ? that it will lower the chances if it catching on fire? Havent tried this one yet.. but told from a long time fire spinner? We'll see. So my first fire spin was in the summer of 2005. I was able to purchase my first fire hoop a little over a year ago. Mine is a bit bigger than most so it has been a wild ride! Love love love hoops! Love to you all. Happy Holidays to you and yours! And keep on Hoopin!
Interesting. Olive oil seems like it would make it more flammable.
lol I thought that too. honestly I do not know. I will have to ask around. I'll let you all know if I find anything more about safety. :)
