I've just received my 34" fire hoop from Synergy Firehoops and it's bare!  I can't decide if I want to sand it or tape it.  I've seen a lot of taped fire hoops but I'm not sure if this actually provides any benefit over sanding or if people just prefer it for more aesthetic reasons.

I think tape helps, I kind of do a little of both. I sand then add a thin strip of tape on the inside.
Sanding keeps it light.   Although I like the look of metallic tape when it's lit.

both!

I just ordered my new one too (via synergy and Bare to save money) I'm planning on doing my own detail tape :) but sanding the rest to keep it light.

I have a sacred flame hoop with both sanding and about 20 pieces of grip tape.  it keeps it very light with an extra bit of grip
I use quick wicks on a polypro hoop, and I only sand it to keep it as light as possible.  Also because I hate taping hoops, lol
