I know in certain states you need a license to spin fire. Does anyone know how to get one of these licenses? Do you need to live in that state to get one? Does it cost money?

It varies depending on where you live.

I do have a fire permit. In Colorado it's done by county (and for some counties its done by city). I got my permit for the county of Denver, Colorado. I called the Denver fire department and made an appointment with the fire chief so he could verify that I had fire insurance (which is included in my performer insurance: http://www.specialtyinsuranceagency.com/performer-insurance.html), and he needed to inspect my fire prop(s), inspect my fire safety bin, talk about each point of the permit and collect the permit fee for Denver ($50). In Boulder county, there is a similar process to obtain a fire permit, but it is free.

I started a discussion in our Colorado hoop group about this: http://www.hoopcity.ca/group/coloradohoopers/forum/topics/fire-danc...

:)
Thanks! Pennsylvania doesn't have any permits, but I'd like to get one to stay safe, just in case. Is your permit transferable? Like, could you spin fire in ohio or california with a colorado license, or do you need to re-apply in each county you are performing in? I understand you need to buy insurance every year, is it the same with your license, like, how long is it good for?
My permit is only for the county and is done per person, per year.

I'm a member of http://www.nafaa.org/, the North American Fire Arts Association - but they don't do permits or anything. It's a $5 membership fee and they promote safety and awareness.
