So guys being a newbie, I of course have a hoop question! This ones a little different then the others though!

Okay so I bought a cheap wave hoop from Walmart to try out hooping and see if I'd like to pursue it. I love it I learned 6 tricks within a few hours and waist hooping and leg hooping always came easily to me and I love to dance (thank you for growing up a little kid with a hula hoop!) Here is my dilemma..

My wave hoop is 34" (not sure of the psi' but it's small"
I was looking to purchase a hoop off Etsy, but now I don't know what size to go to, I know the standards for beginners (39"-42") but if I'm already mastering tricks (rising sun, lasso, and working on the vortex) so fast on a 34" hoop, which size should I move to?

I want to still be able to do all the body tricks but I'm still working on bring the hoop up from my knees! My belly button to the floor measures 38 1/2" if that helps!

I was thinking 38" or 39" 3/4 100 psi travel hoop with gaffer tape does this sound about right or would anyone recommended another size?

Thank you!

I just made hoops for my two girl friends who started on Walmart hoops as well. The tubing that compares in size is the 1/2 inch black pe tubing with 100 psi. 3/4 is going to be much thicker tubing and you might not like it. If you are already comfy with a 34 inch then I would stick with it!

I'm glad I'm not alone on the walmart hoops! Okay that makes sense it seemed like it would be the 1/2, that is true maybe ill just try making one as well but the gaffer tape is sooo expensive! The wave part of the hoop just drives me crazy! It makes isolations impossible!

You can get a roll of 1/2 inch gaffers for only about 5 bucks which isn't too bad. But yes those hoops are garbage and make MOST things difficult lol.

Oh nice! Thats a great price actually! Is there a certain site you'd recommend? I know they really do they are so off balance, but I'd rather it be difficult now rather then 2 easy haha!

Try tapebrothers.com or my all time favorite hoopingsupply.com :) Or some sellers on Etsy will have tape too!

Thank you :))))

Hoopsupplies.com!  Here's a  trick I figured out with the gaffers tape:  if you get the 1" size, you can (carefully!) use an exacto knife and slice it down the center of the roll, working through just a few layers as needed.  Then you have the option of using it as an accent stripe, or just a smaller stripe of gaffers!

Great tip!!!!!!

If you want something a little bigger to make chest hooping easier then go up to a 36"... A 38 or 39" hoop will feel huge and unweildy if you are already comfortable with a 34".

Is 2" really much of a difference? It doesn't sound like a lot but I wouldn't know! Haha

Maybe I'll order a 36 and a 38! So then Ill have a range!

yes, 2" will make a big difference :) i'd first make sure you're measuring the same way. is your hoop you currently have 34" from the inside to inside, or outside to outside? make sure your new hoop is measured the same way you're measuring the one you have, or the size will be different from what you're expecting.

Thats a great question I measure the water hoop from the outside edges, is that how hoops are normally measured? Sorry for my ignorance! I'm still learning a lot! Thank you!
