Some teachers at a local elementary school are doing an event called "Hoops for Heart" where they will play basketball to inspire students to remain active.  I was asked to perform during the half time show, but I have no idea what music to use.  The students will be anywhere between 4 years old to 11, so I need to find music that will capture their interest. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Also, any tips for a first timer would be great.  I am so excited, but extremely nervous.  :/

Ooh, fun! I don't have any music suggestions off the top of my head - I used Blame It On the Boogie (Michael Jackson) the last time I had a performance for a group of kids that age, and it worked well.

My advice would be to keep it simple. Any tricks, no matter how simple, are going to dazzle them - they'll think that repeated vortexes are a-MAZ!-ing, for example.

This will be fun! And it will be great practice for future performances. :)
Wow that sounds so fun! ENJOY!
I have a 12yr old & 5yr old & they both like this one a lot

Yeah this would be a great song!
Hi there!
I've been curious about you...
Did you already do this event? If so, how was it?
What music did you end up using? & the kids, what was their response?
& if you haven't yet... well then good luck! & please keep me posted. :0)
Awww thank you. I actually have the performance on Friday and really excited about it.
It's going to be my roommate and I performing together. The first song we are doing is Pop Tent by Taal Fiza but one of my friends makes beats so he is extending the beginning of the song so we can 'ham' it up for the kids. They want us to perform for ten minutes so we are using 2/3 of the song "Blame It On The Pop" by DJ Earworm and part of the way through we are going to bring out or LED hoops to make sure we get their interest again.
Sounds perfect! I know you two will have a blast. Good LUCK! Please post pick & video, I'm excited, so keep me in the Hoop Loop!
My thoughts are with you today & I'm sending out the good vibes to you & your friend! Those kids are gonna be crazy telling their parents how you two rocked it & wanna go out & buy hoops this weekend for sure! <3

Swizzy Ape

a way out of the hoop

I'm stuck in a loop with the hula hoop. When I was a little girl I was abused in every which way. Often I was grounded to my bedroom, with two bathroom visits and a dinner release. In my bedroom held my boom box. Loud music would draw my angry step father towards my room. But I had to dance, so from a young age I would take a few preventable beatings so I could dance in my bedroom. Pretending I'm dancing on stage with Brain Setzer, I had trained myself to ingore reality while I dance. Even…

I haven't posted for a very long time, but I have something worth sharing.  In the last couple of years, I have advanced enough to start teaching and I absolutley love my classes.  All my students are wonderful its the most favorite part of my week. Through a very unfortunate series of events, every hoop I own, including my hoops for students, were taken and no longer in my possession. I was so upset ,not for myself, but my students would have nothing to take class with. There…
