so i was trying to explain to my boyfriend last night the power of a hula hoop. and i was telling him theres all this competitiveness in sports and my whole life i've been playing sports and winning or losing. but hooping is different. you can get tons of people in a room together that dont even know eachother and be bestfriends by the end of the jam. its friendly and peaceful and everyone is more interested about learning new things and teaching new things and perfecting your own style and flow as well as help anyone else who wants to hoop too. its awesome to me the hooping community, we're all so tight. yeah we might not all know eachother or even be friends on this. but if anyone ever has a problem or needs encouragement, or has a question, or just cant nail a trick, anything you can always come to hoop city and post something about it. find answers to problems. its awesome that safire could actually build this city. of friends. friends brought together through a circle. the most amazing circle of life i have ever been introduced too. i wanted to say thank you to safire and snowzilla. and i also wanted to know what everyone else thinks about it! hoopluv -Jenna

Awesome post. Great way to put hooping into perspective for someone. I like. ;)
Great post. I think for the most part, we all try to keep that sense of open and giving community going. :)
Perfectly said ^__^
Amen! I've never encountered a community quite like the hoop community, whether online or in "real life". And Hoop City is absolutely amazing. I started hooping just about when Hoop City was born (before it had its current name) & now I find it very hard to believe that I survived so many years without hooping, hoopers & Hoop City!
Yay hoopers!

Circularlogic: I found the newly born safiredance.ning less than a month into my hoopdance journey. It's been a BIG part of the experience. Without it, I'm not sure how would have made contact with the larger hooping community beyond my small town.
cheers! : ) such a beautiful community of people with so much to teach and inspire others with.
hoopluv back!
I agree... I'm not a competitive person, so competitive sports of any kind have never appealed to me. I love hooping for the fact that in order to get really good at it, you don't NEED to compete against other people, and there is no one has a driving urge to be better than other people, which is the part of sports I really hate, lol.
I've always felt the same way about sports. Besides one glorious season of middle school soccer where I was actually on the field a total of (maybe) 20 minutes the entire time, I've never had a competitive streak. I'm actually getting together with someone I've never met before on tuesday just so we can hoop together at school!
thats so awesome! i got together with about 10 people at a flow jam on thursday a hour away from my house! and it was awesome. one of the best things i have ever done and i'll be back every thursday from now on =D
wonderful post! I feel the same way :-D The hooping community is such a welcoming, friendly, compassionate, fun community.
I love your post!! You worded it perfectly. Hooping is the most peaceful yet thrilling activity I have ever experienced. I played competitive sports my first two years in college, but I had to stop because I was getting frustrated with the need for complete perfection. It is amazing to find a community that supports you no matter your level of experience.
