So I haven't been hooping for very long, but I love it and I'm trying to learn as much as I can! I just very recently heard of this forum and figured some fellow hoopers could help me out :)

I'm able to keep the hoop spinning at my knees for the most part, but I'm just wondering what's the best technique? You guys will probably have tips to make it a whole lot easier haha. Also, once you have it there how can you bring it back up? Any input is much appreciated!

Thanks

agreed with the you tube :) It rocks!  Best wishes!

thanks! I've been checking out some videos and they definitely have helped, but confused me at the same time. I hoop left current so which leg should be my pusher, or does it actually matter?

I personally use my left knee to push forward and my right knee to push back! I find it takes less work when you use both legs. :]

It is easiest for me to use both legs as the pusher leg, alternately or however it works best at the moment... With practice you can walk around easily with the hoop around your knees.

I hoop clockwise (right) by the way.

Everyone tends to have a different control side, but typically for right-handers, it's the left hip, left shoulder, left knee etc., and vice versa for left handers. But I have seen exceptions to this, so you should closely see...your control side usually moves slightly more than the other side.

This video really helped me with bringing the hoop up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fbsXa8bnjc

Hope you find it as useful!

To keep it spinning, use one leg to "follow" the hoop.

For instance, if you hoop to the left, use your left leg to follow the hoop around. You turn with it, sort of.. backwards. Kind of hard to explain.

Eventually, when you get the hang of this, you'll stop following the hoop with one leg and it will smooth out. It worked for me :)

With getting the hoop to come back up, give it a kick every time it hits your leg(s). and shake your ass as it gets higher! It looks totally weird in the beginning. Just keep practicing!

Good luck! xxx

I hope that this helps!

Hey sam! Every time someone brings up knee hooping i always remind them not to get frustrated with it! it's not exactly the easiest part of your body to get a hoop to go around smoothly. I wasn't able to keep it around my legs till about four months in.

I hoop to the left current and when i'm hooping i use my right leg to push.

the more time you spend in the hoop the faster you'll learn it

good luck and remember, don't get frustrated if it takes some time

ahh, so much information! I'll definitely have to watch the videos and try out all these pointers :)

thanks so much to everyone, I'll probably post back later with how it goes!

well after all this practice I got some pretty awful looking bruises on the outside of both my legs, so I think it's time for a little break! I had quite a bit of success on finding other ways to keep it spinning, but not really much on bringing it back up. Whenever I try, the front of the hoop with go up, but the back goes down then will either hit the floor or get caught on my foot :(

any tips to help with that?

Sam
