I taped up my new hoop last night and it looks awesome.... only one problem the glitter tape I have doesn't seem to stick very well and is peeling at the ends. Does anyone have advise on how to fix this?

Is this tape kind of stiff, like it's not flexi at all like most other tapes?

If it's the same as I use, it's best to frame/trim the edges with another tape. This will both protect it and help it stay on.

I taped one hoop without framing the shiny tapes and it's totally mangled now. I'd suggest adding a trim as soon as you can. It doesn't have to be a thin tape, just so long as it covers the edges of the shiny tape. Always start with the shiny tapes and work around them.

Hope that helps,
Much love

Agreed! That is one of those rules that I never seem to hear mentioned...but is probably one of the most vital. I had to re-tape a whole batch within 6 weeks because I didn't know.....waaahhh! Good thing my hoops like to change their outfits!
I just taped up a new hoop with holographic rainbow tape. For whatever reason, the edges want to bubble (!!!) even though I smoothed them as much as possibly could be done. I went over the holographic tape with clear vinyl tape from Identi-tape to seal the edges and protect the metallic, since I tend to hit my hoop on stuff.

I also agree with using a trim tape. I did that with my last hoop and it seems to hold up pretty well. Whatever you do, do not get the chart tape from Office Depot/Office Max/Hobby Lobby. It doesn't stick very well; use Identi-tape or Findtape.com
Did you totally cover the holographic..with the clear? I've wanted to try that for a long time but I was afraid it would take away the "sparkle" If it works that would be fantastic!
order, from identi tape, the 1/2 inch gaff tape...they have tons of colors...it is perfect to cover your expensive prismatic, mirror, and shimmer tapes edges and adds TONS of perfect grip
Nope, still sparkly. I actually had to go over it twice; the holographic is one inch wide and the clear was only 3/4 inches... I laid the clear over the holographic to cover one edge and then I added a stripe of glow-in-the-dark tape over the the holographic and then another layer of clear to cover the glow tape and the other edge of holographic.

The problem with the clear vinyl is the sticky will stay on top of the clear (actually, this happens with all the vinyl tape), so you'll end up with sticky on top of your tape. I found taking some gaff tape and using it to lift the sticky off helps keep tons of cat fur from sticking to my hoop.
THx for all the advise. This is my first time working with gaffer and glitter tape. I have always used electirc tape for all my hoops. Not sure what to do about my current hoop except for taking off my pretty glitter tape :( My tape is 1" so it is to wide to cover with the clear unless I got the 2" wide clear vinyl tape and wrapped the hoop. What do you think about that??
That would work, it would be super-covered! you could also get the 1" wide tape and just double over it. You can't tell the clear is doubled over unless you are close up on it. I'll post a super-close pic and a further away pic of my clear-covered metallic taped hoop soon. I have a connector problem right now -- I want it to come out and the connector refuses......
I've gotten so frustrated with my glitter tape, that I finally gave up trying to "tape it" to the hoop. I've been taping one end down with scotch, then spiraling it out (backing still on) and taping the other end with scotch again. Then, I go over the edges with a thin gaffer tape, or whatever tapes I am using (as I would anyways). And voila! If I mess up, I can take it up and fix the angles, no sticky glitter goop or crumply tape! Plus, if I ever wanted to, down the road, I could pull up all the other tapes and re-use the fancy stuff on another job!
OMG!

I should really be in bed right now, but you are seriously a genius! I pretty much always frame the edges and I can't think of any reason that would be good...

The paper is even a bit waxy so if it god wet, it should still hold okay.

(BAH! I ordered from identi-tape recently and didn't even realize the potential of their clear vinyl)
LOL! I bought the clear vinyl a while ago and had barely used any until this last hoop. I can't wait until I have to re-tape my twins, they have small blocks of metallic that will be clear-vinyl'd when I re-tape them cos metallic tape hurts when it scratches.
That's a brilliant idea! I'm planning on making a 'collection' of hoops around a common theme and several of them will have metallic tape; I may try your idea!
