I am finally getting ready to do my first dancing gig. Im worried because Im not that sure that im a great dancer or anything. I was wondering if anyone who is a dancer would tell me where they learned to dance. Or if there is any videos where I could learn a few moves. Or what I should do and shouldnt do. Im nervous but excited at the same time. Does anyone have tips on loosing up and not worrying about people judging me?

Being a GoGo dancer/performer myself I can say first and foremost that CONFIDENCE IS KEY!

It can make the biggest difference!

A crowd you're in front of might not always be able to tell if you're the best dancer, or if you're faking it if you look like you're having a hell of a good time and showing it. A confident, fun loving attitude always shines through. Just look like you're enjoying yourself and not caring and trust me, it will be apparent. Also, show up looking your best. If you look professional and love how you look than you'll feel great and put forth your best moves.

Look up some dancers like Ms Easy or Defenz Mechanism or search Global Auditions on Youtube.

While they are amazing, talented women, they all have confidence and a great perky attitude in common.

So just watch videos on youtube and try and watch yourself in a mirror or video record yourself. Go out maybe one night and just let go and dance around people you don't know.

The thing about being a gogo dancer is, while people are wtching you, they're having such a good time that they really aren't concerned about you or what's going there. It isnt like theyre sitting there crossed armed and snickering and judging you! The nerves are hard to get over but once you get settled in you'll see it's just so much fun and a BIG stress reliever!

I think you hit the nail right on the head. :) Where were you when I first started?

I myself felt like I was not the best dancer and it showed in a few of my first performances. But as I moved on and did more, I really felt myself get into the music.  I also felt like my attitude and fun-nature really brought the party up a few notches.  I also did lingerie modeling and most of my go-go outfits were lingerie. (I worked for 808LingerieShop in Honolulu.)  Honestly, that was harder for me to deal with.  Quickly, a funny story with that....

I recall one time that handed me this outfit and it had a thong.  I was petrified to wear it and didn't come out of the bathroom for a long time. When I finally did and stopped worrying about how I looked, my boss said that was the one moment I shined because I got over worrying about what everyone else was thinking and just had a good time. Still makes me smile when I think about it.

Anyways, just be confident and have fun. :)  It truly is a blast and I wish I could do it again. :)

Congrats!  Do let us know how it goes! : )
I know quite a few of the dancers in my area, and I notice what makes them look awesome is their confidence! They love the music, the movement, and themselves, so it's really fun to watch. I will add that I tend to notice when they change levels it is pretty visually appealing, like bending down every now and then with knees straight or bent, as well as standing up tall and using lots of arm & leg movement. Just have fun with it, I'm sure you will do awesome!

Thanks guys!! I appreciate all of your feed back. I have been watching some videos and dancing around a lot more where ever I go and I hear a good tune. haha. Its this coming friday so I will make sure to let you all know how it goes and hopefully get some pics and or videos!

Much love! xoxoxox

I had the funnest time ever! everyone told me i looked great. If i can get some photos ill post them. thanks for all your help and wisdom guys.

Do you have anything else to add on auditioning for GoGo dancing? Or sites you recommend?  How is dancing going for you now??

I honestly just let the music move me. I dont practice any particular moves or dances, i just dance. And the people seem to love it. Like Heather said Confidence can make or break you as long as your out there banging it out and having fun and people can see that they will love you and have fun as well.
