I am currently in the process of gathering a tape collection, and I was just wondering what a good "base" would be to start out with!

I currently have

Dark blue mirror (big roll)
Raspberry Holographic (small roll)
1" teal gaffer
1" fluoro green gaffer (both big rolls)

I know I want 1/2" black and white, and silver mirror (my fave), but what are some other color and tape suggestions to get started?

(btw I like my hoops shiny :) if that helps!)

Hmm my most popular colour that I run out of is purple, so get some of that for sure!

My first time I got:
1" gaffer in: dark green, purple, blue, burgandy, and fluoro pink
Specialty Tapes: Dark pink sequins, blue and pink mirror and silver sparkles.
Then I got a dark blue and a white vynal tape.

I find white goes quickly too.

Good luck! It's so fun picking out new tape :)
I always try to pick up the basic rainbow colors in vinyl so that I have a complete pallet. Two rolls each of the pink and purple in electrical, because the electrical purple is a nicer color than the vinyl purple. The electric is more expensive, because the rolls are smaller, but I think the color difference is worth it. I love, love purple mirror and the sky blue sparkle. Also, right now identi tape has the moon and star gaff in stock, so I'd scoop some of that up too. I make sure to get a couple complimentary colors in 1/2 too, for doing wide spirals and edging.
Anytime I spin a hoop with red mirror tape people always say how pretty it is. For some reason it really catches the light. I thought it did as well as the silver mirror I had, but everyone commented on the red and not the silver.
identi-tape also has a rainbow holographic color, so it looks silver but has colors that catch the light making it go with a lot of other colors!!
My mini's with pink mirror and pink gaffer tape look fabulous when they are spinning. My next hoops will also be in one colour mirror and gaff, that's for sure :) Maybe you can start with neutral colors like white, black or blue.
I love glitter tape myself... shiny but it doesn't show the scuffs as badly as mirror in my experience! I'm crazy about purple & black, so I have those in several incarnations. I think the glitter black is just gorgeous but it does make the hoop hard to see in the dark without another shiny stripe-- though it would look awesome with white gaffer & be very visible. Hm, I think I'll try that next! I just did one in purple glitter with black, purple & blue gaffer (in narrowing centered stripes) & it's so subtle & pretty, reminds me of a garden bed of violas or a twilight sky!
This is what I'm going with to start out with:

Silver Mirror 1" (my favorite, I use it ALL the time)
Gold Prismatic (another fave)
Emerald Green Prismatic
Fluorescent Pink Prismatic
Silver Galactica Holographic

1/2" Gaff in Black and White

3/4" Vinyl in Emerald Green, Yellow, Purple, and Medium Blue (I get black and white from a supply store here for cheaper)
Actually I don't mind the backing so much anymore. I've perfected a method to make the backing stay out of the way and coil up nicely so it's easy to dispose of after I'm done!
about gaffer tape, does this look good? http://ebusiness8.rightclick.nl/stumpel/rightclick.cfm?id=1386428&a... It's called different but I think it's the same. Can the experts on this
forum please take a look? ;)
Hmm, I'm not sure of the translation, but if this is actually linen tape, that's something different altogether-- much used in framing & bookcraft but definitely not at all like gaffer's. Try a site for stage production maybe? Gaffer's is used for marking positions on the stage.
A closer look at the picture makes me think it isn't linen tape after all, but still doesn't quite look like gaffer's. Some cloth tapes are uncoated & would not be nearly as durable as gaffer's.
