All of my practice minis are taped, which do help prevent them from easily sliding off the hand most of the time, but my problem lies with my fire and LED minis, which are sanded, not taped. This season, I'll be using both for performing with our fire tribe and my only concern is with one flying away while I do an anti-spin or something with a lot of umph.... I do have gaffers tape & have attempted to wrap both in some pretty creative ways, but none of which provide enough grip still (or keep from covering the lights). It's not with the crafting of the hoops--it's just fact that minis are more difficult to maintain since they are smaller, faster and generally you're juggling two at once!

So... I had an idea... I use rosin at the gym for aerial practice, which helps grip the silks. For the thin, white tubing that I have on both my fire and LED minis, I think this may work perfectly. It shouldn't leave behind any discoloration, maybe a little bit of stickiness that should be easily removed from that specific type of tubing.

What are your thoughts on this? I'm open to any suggestions, just want to feel confident for my first performance in public with these! <3

I'd be worried about flammability with fire... not sure but I would check on that if I were you.
Hmm...Good thought. This actually generated when I got my mini LEDs over the weeked... I've had my fire minis since November and haven't had much of an issue with those, they are 22" compared to my smaller, 17" LED minis. Those are a bit harder to grip b/c they are so quick. I'll give it a shot on my LEDs and stear clear with the fire :)
Please let us know how that works! great idea.
One thing you might consider, at least with the LED's...is some clear tennis/hurling grip tape. I've seen the hurling tape in clear before (in dublin, hurling is an Irish sport). Don't know about tennis coming in clear. But it's super grippy and soft too. But it may add unwanted weight/possibly disperse too much light. Just a thought though.
Thank you! Great suggestion... and honestly, a little weight wouldn't hurt, as these are 17", a little smaller than I'm used to. I'll check it out.
Have you tried taping the inside of the hoop with gaffers? I did this with my husbands twins and he LOVED it. I used the 1/4 inch gaffers so it stays flat, the 1 inch is too wide and can curl up on the sides. It provides maximum grip AND maximum exposure to the hoop for the audience! Plus, it makes a really cool illusion :) You can see the inner ring of bright red on his hoop here (where he is being goofy and using one mini hoop and one poi hehe)

i need to do this for my fire minis!
