Does anyone know of a good source for large and strong fishing swivels?

When I made mine I actually got them at walmart, i just got the biggest size they have and that has worked well so far!

Okay, so, for fishing swivels, try Bass fishing shops, they're cheap and they're good.  Order online.

To connect, I could imagine that some basic wire wrapped around the hoop and through the swivel would do it, then tape over the wire to keep it from slipping.

I checked the "test weight" on the swivels and guessed at the torque my hoops would create. I think I ended up with #2 swivels for my very thin tubing.

The weak link in my construction was the split rings - they stretched out of shape after a few hours of heavy play. I will replace them with sturdier ones if I can find the right size. Or I'll make my own from wire as Tedward suggests.

The method of putting tape to the right and left of the split rings to hold them in place works pretty well. Once in a while the rings slide over the tape, but not so often for it to be troublesome.
