I'm new to this community of Hoopers.  I admit I've been reading for quite some time and admired the skills I've seen.  I'm by no means an expert but I do try and I have fun with it.

I'm trying to introduce others in my area to the wonderful world of hooping.  It hasn't been an easy thing to do.  I would have thought more people would be just as excited about it as I am.  I guess that makes me weird. Or, perhaps, unique.

I look forward to getting to know the people here.  Many of you have taught me so much by posting your videos.  Thank you for that.

Hello & welcome, Patty! I know what you mean about trying to get friends & family to understand how great hooping is... when I first started I was like a cult member trying to convince everyone I knew (& some perfect strangers!) to try it. Knowing how much it does for me mentally & physically, I almost felt morally bound to share the hoop love. But eventually I realized that it just isn't for everyone. It's like me & organized sports-- never gonna happen-- so I just have to accept that I'm not going to teach the world to hoop in perfect harmony! I'm very lucky that there is a small group of wonderful hoopers here, but I do most of my hooping on my own, & I can deal with that.

As you've discovered, Hoop City is home for a lot of us addicts! :)
Thank you, circularlogic. Wouldn't it be nice if we could teach the world to hoop in perfect harmony? I 'get it'....so, why doesn't everyone else? Like you said, it's not for everyone. Some people won't even try. That's when I just hand them a hoop and tell them to take it home and have fun with it.
Patty,
I am on a mission to do the same thing in my area! I'm just trying to introduce this new love of mine to the people around me. Eventually we'll get it and before you know...HOOPERS WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD! Maybe not, but that would be awesome. Welcome to HoopCity; I look forward to getting to know you (: Happy Hooping!
Sheloopa, I hear ya! I wonder what would happen if I took a hoop inside the mall and just started hooping? I go there every night and walk. Most of the store employees, managers and even the security guards know me. I've thought about it but always chicken out. I guess I'll never know unless I try. Maybe I'll hoop at the end where Dick's Sporting Goods is located....and if they say anything to me....I'll tell them..."These are the kind of hoops you need in your store..not those little toy hoops."
Hi Patty! I actually hooped in the mall last weekend, and your post caught my eye. I was in Lucy buying a travel Hoopnotica hoop, and the store people whispered, "Do you know how to do this?" And I said that I am no expert, but I love it. They then busted out a couple of the travel hoops, and I showed them all a few tricks. They loved it, and they wanted me to come back and teach them classes! People kept walking by outside the store and watching me! It was awesome, and I was by far the best hooper! Made me feel like a rock star!!! :-D
Hi Moqui. That's awesome! It makes you feel good when someone else is interested enough to ask....and then, you can show them some of what you can do, doesn't it! Now, I want to try it. The worst that can happen is the 'mall people' ask me to leave. I say 'mall people' because I've walked the entire mall many, many times and I've yet to see the lady who makes announcements. I don't know where she's hiding but every night she can be heard saying, "Good evening shoppers. The time is now 8:45. The mall will be closing in 15 minutes."....then again at 10 minutes and 5 minutes. It's like it comes from the ceiling and I've often wondered where she is and if she can see everything going on in the mall. I wouldn't be too worried about the security guards running me out because they like me....the hidden lady is a different story! :-)
Welcome! :]
