Hello Hoop City!
How old are you? I am 30.
When did you first start hooping? I first started hooping in grade school... I loved it and was good at it, but like the hop scotch and my roller skates it was left in my childhood memories...until 2007 I attended a bluegrass and music festival called Wheatland and low and behold I seen an adult with a hula hoop.....and I thought to myself.....I love the hula hoop. I want one! with not a lot of money being the single parent that I am, I used my google degree that I have in my back pocket and began to search for ways to make them and soon to learn new tricks and uses for the hoop. and so it begins...my obsession that made me feel so good and young and full of life, and then the passion to share what I have found with everyone I knew and come across.
Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper? I would have to say intermediate because I am always finding things to learn, and put my own tweeks to.
How often do you hoop? Daily
Do you have an indoor hoop space? yes
Is there a hoop group where you live? not yet
Did you start it? I am working on a dog park fund raiser right now
Would you say that you are obsessed with or addicted to hooping? Oh yes! Defiantly Obsessed!
Have you posted hooping videos? How many? I have a few video to post but I have to go in and down size them before they will post.
Do you have friends nearby to hoop with? just a few
Do you teach hooping? If so, how many people have you taught? I don't teach hoop but if I can help a friend out I do.
What kind of songs do you listen to while hooping? any thing with a beat! I am a lover of music! anything from bluegrass to pop, rap, disco, oldies, goodies and inbetweenies.
What is your favorite song right now? Show me your Teeth Lady Gaga!!!!
Do you buy hoops or make your own? I make my own
Have you lost weight since starting to hoop? um I was never very big, I am 5'4 and weigh about 115. it does keep my body toned, and makes me feel strong.
What size is your favorite hoop? They are all my favorites. I have different hoops for different moods of hooping.
Are you comfortable hooping by yourself in a public place? yes
How did you learn the majority of the tricks you know today? probably from your videos that you've posted on google or youtube
Who is your favorite hoop teacher? My favorite to watch is Hoopalicious and Safire
What advice would you give to to beginner hoopers? You must practice hooping in Both directions.
Do you fire hoop? If not, do you want to? Yes I fire hoop.
Do own an LED hoop? Where did you get it? not yet
How much time do you spend on Hoop City Hooping Community?
What was the first trick you learned (besides waist hooping)? bringing it up and down
What is the last trick you mastered? working on the double reverse 3 beat weave.
What trick so far was the hardest for you to learn? they are all hard until one day it just clicks and makes all the sense in the world.
Which one are you finding is almost impossible to get? nothing is impossible. some just take more time than others
How many hoopers would you say live in your town/city? maybe a dozen.
Have you performed hooping in front of an audience? yes
Has anyone told you you were too old to be playing with a hula hoop? no
What’s the worst injury you’ve acquired from the hoop? lol a fat lip from throwing a weighted hoop up in the air and too buzzed to catch it lol that shit hurt.
Have you ever hooped naked? in my underwear in .. the living room
Have you been to a hoop camp/retreat? Which one? No but I would love to. There isn't a whole lot for hoopers in Michigan yet. and being a business owner I have a hard time ever leaving the shop for more than a day.
