I personally haven't heard or seen hoopers with their own nick names, from my understanding, that's usually a rave thing.

ya when i first heard about it i was thinking "damn how many names am i gunna end up with?" (i have a rave name) lol.

I believe it's for performing reasons, when your performing you want a name people can remember and that's unique. I personally choose to keep my real name as my performing name, a lot of people tell me Martika is an unique name so I figure why go with a fake one that's not as good as my real name :)

No one has ever givin me a nickname other than Miss Haley!! So I Hess that's my hoop name! Kinda always wished for a super fun spunky Hooper-burner name!! :-)

I thought it was common to choose a hoop name for yourself when I saw so many that had one, I never thought to ask anyone.  I have only just begun 7 weeks ago.  I am still learning so if there is a hooping etiquette or a protocol to follow I was unaware.  I chose to use the nickname "Mootie Scootie" because it is a nickname my daughter has been calling me for years and I thought it was very fitting.  The hoop scoots around me and Mootie is a misspelling of the German word Mutti for Mommy.  My daughter chose the name "PunkeeBrittster" for herself, my son chose "Helix" and my assistant at work had trouble choosing one for herself and since I love word play I started calling her "Twirly Girly".  She and I hoop on our breaks at work.  My hoop name makes me happy and it is fun amoungst my personal little hoop group to call each other by our hoop names. Hooping makes me happy. I am on a hooping journey and following what makes me happy.

I made one. Its just fun to have another 'alias'. When you are the hooper, you are not the old you, but a new, creative, inventive one. :)

oh haha. i read the title of this thread and thought you were talking about actually naming hoops. which, i do. my hoops are my babies :D

That's a great idea, funny I was actually thinking of doing the same, I currently only have one hoop and I call it my boo boo hoop.  I am too afraid to tape it yet because I make so many boo boos I would just muck up any tape job I did.  So I sort of named that one.  I also think it would be cool if Hoop City or any other Hooping entity would start a Hooper Name registry, I actually looked for one before helping my assistant choose her name so we would not copy anyone, I could not find one.
