Hoop Teacher Training FAQs
Do I have to be certified to teach hooping?
No. Certification is not mandatory and Hoop City promotes the idea that certification should never be mandatory for hooping. Hoop City will continue to allow non-certified teachers to be listed in the Teacher Directory as well as post events for their classes. If you want to take training and certification it should be because you want to improve as an instructor and increase your skills to benefit your students.
Who should take hooping teacher training?
Hoopers that are ready to begin teaching hoop dance for the first time or currently teaching and are interested in improving their skills as an instructor. Great for educators, dance instructors, fitness instructors and those who are interested in working for themselves or generating additional income on the side.
Why should I take hooping teacher training?
Teacher training programs will help you create a successful and positive learning environment for your students while increasing your confidence in the classroom. Many programs offer their lesson plans to help you get started without the stress of developing an entire program from scratch. Learn how to feel comfortable, radiate confidence and effectively facilitate a group. Programs also provide details on developing your own business and working professionally as a hoop instructor.

Do I need any other certifications?
Depending on what country you live in and where you are instructing you may need to have additional certification. Many gyms will not allow instructors to teach at their facilities without a fitness specific certification. To find out what you will need we recommend asking a local gym or YMCA what fitness certification they require or recommend. Other certificates that are strongly advised include CPR and First Aid Training.
FAQs About SaFire's Distance Training
How much feedback can I expect from SaFire ?
It depends on how much assistance and feedback you'd like. I can easily be available for text responses in the classrooms and messages through my Hoop City inbox if you have a more personal questions to ask.
How long does the course take?
The program should take approximately two months. Reading the text, watching the videos, running several workshops/classes to write your reflections and completing the tasks for certification.
How long do I have before my certification application is due?
It is your decision when you would like to certify and there is no time cap on the course. Meaning if someone enrols in the training and something in life comes up and they cannot apply for certification until the following year, then this is fine. There is no completion deadline, you work at your own pace.
Do you plan to offer teacher training for the Budding and Blooming?
There have already been dozens of requests for Budding and Blooming teacher training programs and I have intentions to do so. I cannot really promise it for sure but can say that these programs would be significantly less expensive since much of the fundamentals and core content is available in the Seeding Series (Level One) Training. Access to the Budding and Blooming online classes would come with the training and an appropriate discount is available for those who have already paid for access to those classes.
About how long does the certification application review process take?
There are three times a year that you can apply. Length of time needed for the review process will vary on how many people have applied. The more applications received, the more time it will take. On average your application should be completed within a week of being fully submitted and paid. An invitation to the Ongoing Teacher Training Classroom would be received immediately after certification approval, along with a message of congratulations and digital copy of your certificate. Shipping of your card stock certificate and hardcover textbook will follow shortly after.
Do I need to pay a licensing fee in order to teach your classes?
No, certification costs for the SaFire Dance program is not a licensing fee. It confirms that you have completed the teacher training and passed the requirements to become a Certified SaFire Dance Instructor and give you access to ongoing teacher training by SaFire.
Can I teach hoop dancing classes other than yours?
Yes, my teacher training covers a lot of specific content directed
towards teaching in general. I have chosen to put an emphasis on skills involved with learning how to teach and grow as an individual instructor with the ability to customize and alter my curriculum to suite your needs. If you choose to advertise the classes as the Seeding Series program them I would prefer the curriculum to be the same (or very similar) as the lessons I've shared but in no way are you limited to teach only my program. If you've modified the classes then calling them "YOURNAME's Beginners Level One" would be more appropriate.
For example, if you create your own class that is a belly dance hooping class and are SaFire Dance certified it means that you would not advertise the class as a Seeding Series course but can still advertise that you are SaFire Certified as a hoop instructor.

Yep, that's correct. You do have to be within the classroom for a few months first before you are permitted to submit your assignments. They must all be fully completed and you'll have to receive a passing grade for each. If you fail one you'll have to re-submit that single assignment but not each individual one.

Hello! I'm extremely interested in taking the teaching course. I am new myself but have been playing around for the last eight months or so. There is an event I have been invited to teach at on may 24th 2012 but I need to be certified. It will be extreme beginners. Do you think it would be possible to complete the course by then???

I'm not Safire, =), but I take the teacher training. As for the online curriculum, the information is all on the website so there is no start or end date. You work through it at your own pace.

Are there any discounts for the teacher training if you've already bought the seeding series....(ie., since I've already bought the seeding series, not sure if that's included in the teacher training, but if it is, was wondering if a discount would be applied).
