Hi there Hoopers!! Sooo I am going to Brazil next month (so excited!!!!)

And I have a question about the whole Visa thing..

I have my passport and all but I'm hearing that I need a visa? My dad went to the Domincan Republic & he told me all they did was charge him a fee at the airport for his visa & put a sticker or something like that on his passport.

If this is not the case for Brazil how do I go about getting my Visa & how long will it take for me to receive it?

Oh also...what's the best/safest way to get a taxi once I arrive at the airport in Rio.

Thanks guys!!!! xo

Visa info: Brazilian consulate

There are tons of travel sites to find out basic safety precautions you should take and how to get around if you Google. As safe as SA is and as awesome as it is to just adventure into new places, you really shouldn't go unprepared with basic knowledge, especially if you don't speak any/much Brazilian Portuguese. There are always people, anywhere who will take advantage of tourists.

check Brazil's visa website, i just googled it for you....

visa's for brazil

if you cant find what your looking for on there ping them an email.

I would also buy a rough guide or lonely planet book on Brazil, they are invaluable sources of information about travelling around, safety, accommodation, places to visit and such like.  I am currently travelling around Australia and I would be lost without mine.

Enjoy the journey!

Different nations have different rules about entry and visas. Some countries let you enter for a certain number of days (30, 90, etc) without a visa. Others require you to apply for a visa in advance. Brazil requires advance visa application.

You'll need to gather together all the necessary forms, fees and other bits of paperwork, then the apply at the consulate in person (or through a visa service if you are not able to apply in person). It will take at least five working days to process the visa but possibly more, so don't wait.

All of this and more is explained in the links others have given you. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate the links! I speak spanish so if I listen carefully I can catch on to what people are saying in portuguese, so hopefully that will help me out a bit! I will be staying with an old best friend of mine who has been living there for sometime now so I'll have a local guiding me around. I would be so nervous to go all by myself and have no one! hehe I'm just nervous about taking a taxi to meet her. Anyhoo, thanks again I'll being doing lots of research :)
