I have the opportunity to coach a semi-pro cheerleading squad and introduce them to the hoop! I have an extensive background in dance and cheerleading and lately I've been seeing parallels in my hooping with my cheering past, and I have many ideas for hooping while cheering, stunting, dancing, and performing gymnastics...I'm excited and think it has a lot of potential to make this squad unique and catch on in the world of cheer!

*What are your thoughts/ ideas?

*Has anyone ever seen this before??

I imagine they would be great at things like throws, pizza tosses & then doing something elaborate before the catch! Or someone hooping while being held up on a pyramid, etc. That would be a lot of fun to see. I bet they'll have some ideas about where to adapt existing moves as well.
I have actually wanted to try hooping in cheerleading stunts for awhile now. I used to be a cheerleader in high school, so for me it seems locial to combine the two.

You should take pictures and video of what you come up with. I would love to see. :)
For sure...I think the possibilities are endless. I'll definately make sure everyone sees the magic when it happens!
What a great fit. Is it a basketball cheerleader team? Or just a competitive team? Remember to make the tricks big with formation and timing so the act looks good from a distance rather than up close and personal. Its a new challenge.

I haven't seen it yet, but a professional team bought hoops for their cheerleaders this year. I will let you know if they put anything out. We have been waiting on that.
Cool! I figured it would catch on at some point....They are actually primarily a footbacll squad for the Watertown Red & Black semi-pro team...so halftime shows could be sweet. They might want to compete as well I'm not sure yet...are hoops allowed at cheerleading competition??...If pom poms are allowed, these simple objects should be!
I would think if you can have signs, megaphones, pom poms, etc. that hoops would be acceptable. I would check with the association that they are competing under (like UCA for high school, I am not sure what the semi pro one is though).
