Hooping is the space to move, relax, and bliss into the spin. Hooping connects me to other dancers, to the music, my inner rhythm, and to the universe. Hooping brings me into my body. Hooping frees my mind. It's the reason to dress like a rockstar and shave my legs in the spring (because I can't leg hooping in pants, LOL!!!). The hoop is my shield, mandala, mirror, and a doorway into infinate possibility.

Without hooping i feel like an empty shell. Hooping gives me a sense of self.

Hoop dance is like a place: a place where I can find my rhythm, a place where stress doesn't exist and a place where I can be someone. I've never really stuck to anything, but something about hooping has me coming back every time! Hooping is where I find my solace (hence my name), and an amazing community. And, I'm a really shy person, but its given me a way to get out of that shell ;)

You know, this question has been posed before & I've never managed to answer it because hooping means so much to me that I feel I'd have to write a dissertation to cover it! As usual I'm working, dropping in here while I wait for Photoshop to save a file, so don't have that much time right now but I'm going to make an effort to put it in words over the course of the day & post later.

As a new hooper, I'm still discovering the full extent of what hoopdance means to me. It started as a way to get some exercise without getting bored like I do with walking and workout videos. As I'm learning more and getting more fluid with the few moves I know, hoopdance is helping me to deal with body image issues I've had most of my life. I'm wearing skirts and skorts again for the first time in years; I'm looking at feminine, flowy clothing with anticipation instead of trepidation; I'm trying on body-skimming sheath dresses and liking what I see in the mirror; I'm videoing myself in motion and posting it for others to see. I'm even considering the possibility of leading an informal class, and I'm getting encouragement from others to do that.

Hoopdance has brought me into the hoop, yes, but it's brought me back into the dance again, something I'd let slip away after Hurricane Katrina left its mark on my life.

Basically, hoopdance been a blessing from God and a place of healing for me.

Hooping is my most precious gift I have been given. It opened the world of physical & spiritual transformation. Here I am at 50, and I feel the best I have in a long time. All I want to do is touch other people and bless them with the spirit of the hoop. The bug dosen't always bite ,,but when it does....*bam*, it's over. You are on your way to one heck of a journey on all levels. I love watching new and experienced hoopers. Watching the journey unfold. Clapping , crying, sharing, encouraging ...fellowship of positive energy. :) That is the beauty of the spirit of hooping. Giving thanks to God for the simplicity of the circle and all it can do!

Space where i can embrace however i am feeling at that moment.
