So today my best friend I were talking about belly dancing and hooping. I told her how lots of people on here have a nickname specially nicknames that have to with hooping. I then ask her what mine should be. She thought for a minute and then thought of the perfect one, tHe mAd hOoPeR. One of my favorite movies is Alice in Wonderland, I have all kinds of stuff and even have The Cheshire Cat tattooed on my arm. She even came up with how to spell it. Anyways this made me think how other people got their nickname specially those with hooping nickname. So this me asking what are nicknames and why?

nicknames generally either make you sound more exotic and interesting or they make your name easier to say. Ive never really had a nickname because my name is already unique and doesnt rly shorten
Same with my first name, though my family call me Phine and friends have come up with some *interesting* non-hooping nicknames over the years. lol
Mine is a handle I have been using for years so I just transferred it to Hoop City as well. All my online friends know me as BenaeQuee (pronounced Be-Neye Kwee). The story behind it is too long to share lol.

I found handles or nicknames are easier to remember than a real name sometimes
that's cool both are interesting I bet the stories behind them are interesting too :)
I love your nickname! I'm an Alice freak too though I've never gone so far as to get an Alice tattoo-- the only ink on me is from doing too much calligraphy with dip pens. ;)

Actually my hoop name circularlogic is tangentially related... as a child I was so obsessed with Alice that I read everything by Lewis Carroll that I could get my hands on, including a book on symbolic logic which I loved. I always found it fascinating that Carroll (a.k.a. Dodgson) was a mathematician, a rather staid one at that, & yet such a fanciful writer & clearly a lover of nonsense. Hooping to me has the same combination of playfulness & puzzle, serious silliness you might say... so my name is a bit of a nod to Lewis Carroll too!
that's a great story!!! I love the fact that he was such a logical man yet he loved things that were non-sense! :)
Brutal Brie came about because we were having a hoop jam and my friend was like AH DUDE THATS BRUTAL
and another friend said afterwards, "well it's brutal because it's brie"
thus, brutal brie. =D
I came up with "The Incendiary Faerie" after me and a few friends over heard people arguing over how you pronounce Incendiary. idk exactly how the name came about, lol, but that's where it came from, at some point when we realized it rhymed with Faerie, XD.
Scun's been my online handle since middle school and scunshine was something an online friend called me and I loved it so much I stole it from him. Though I've been trying to think of something more "hoopy" and all I've come up with is Solspinner, which I'm not really feeling. If anyone wants to steal it, go ahead, just be completely awesome and do it justice :P
Well, I know Goldfish isn't really hoopy but.. I was at a festival and I ended up running around with some random guy. I would stop talk to random people and then stop by the stage to dance a while and then wander on and meet more people. The guy I was with goes "You have the attention span of a goldfish! You're like 'Oooh loook! Something shiney!' and then you turn around and go 'Hey Look! A Castle!!'" So he started calling me Goldfish and then everyone started calling me that. After a while people didn't even know my real name anymore lol

~Goldfish~
nice! My husband calls me goldie on account of my poor memory, lol.
I love that!!! I have been told too by my brother that I have attention of a goldfish. Hey but that is what makes us interesting! ; )
