Any tips to making this work? I'm 5'11 so maybe the hoop I've been trying it with is too small? If anyone has a tutorial of this, it would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!!

I definitely need to work on my hor. step throughs lol.  Mine is more of an awkward step-hop most of the time :).  Instead of just jumping in and hoping for the best, I really need to focus on when the hoop is angled toward the ground and following through with my arm.  And some patience would help too.........

What size hoop are you using?  I'm 5'6" and I've tried this move with a 40" and my usual 36" and I seem to do about the same with both.  Maybe I should just give my version a new name, like the horizontal leap-through???  LOL

Haha yeah I feel ya!  I think it's one of those things that will just happen when you've given yourself a break, you know? I'm gonna try all the different sizes I have and just see what works best :-) good luck and let me know when you get it!
I JUST got it!!! When I'm in the lasso and about to bring it down I turn the top side into my body a little bit(If you lasso clockwise, lasso with your left hand and step into the hoop with your right leg first) then let the hoop move through your palm with ease; don't hold onto the hoop tightly.  The hoop should swing naturally then just step quickly out with your left leg and go back into lasso.  Hope this helps!

Babz has a nice tut. of the step through, but here are a few tips:

  • You need to wait for the hoop to hit the pocket between your thumb and four finger(thats when the "mouth" of the hoop is facing down) then grab the hoop to step through.
  • lean into the hoop with your hand/shoulder first
  • make sure you pop your knees up high
  • have patiences, it feels awkward at first but the more you practice it the smoother and easier it is to do.
AWESOME, thanks!!
i'm trying to picture a horizontal step through...how is it done ?..i can do vertical..
You go from a lasso then swing the hoop down and step into it one leg at a time-sort of hard to explain.  Check it out on youtube.
oh man, i have completely been trying this with both legs at the same time. i bet one at a time will make this so much easier! lol!
Good!! It's so easy once you do it the first time-it's like an AHA moment lol
i see what you mean ! just watched http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRI7biC7sMA

I'm 5'9" and this is possible with anything from a 40" to a 33". I may even be able to go smaller.

My advice: go slowwwwwwwwwwww. It takes more time for taller people to work the hoop all the way around and you dont want the hoop to take the momentum and try to work around you when your arms are in the wrong positions. I treat horizontal step throughs almost like isolations, i find it smooths them out more and the hoop doesnt try to go too fast for my arms
