Hello Hoopers!

I need your help.  I want to create a FAQs page that the link could be shared with parents, siblings, boyfriends/girlfriends, etc. so that if they feel like buying a hoop for us without ruining the surprise, they'll have better luck at getting it right.

Here's my thoughts to get us started.

So you want to gift someone a hoop?

Use these tips to help you find the perfect present

1. Examine their hoops:

- Do they have a favourite hoop?  Measure the Diameter from the outside of this hoop.

- Ask why they use that hoop the most.

- We recommend that you purchase a hoop for them that is 2 inches smaller then the one they are currently using.  (Unless it is already 35 inches or smaller)

2. Get them talking:

- Hey hun, I hear you were thinking about buy a new practice/LED/Fire hoop, why are you buying one? Where do you think you'll get one from?

- Try to be discrete while acting genuinely interested.

3. Talk to other hoopers and friends of the person your buying for.

- What kind of hoop does this person need?

4. Check the Hoop City Product Reviews.

- Make sure you are buying from a quality retailer.

What kind of tips can we give them?

Has someone ever bought you a hoop and it went wrong?

Great idea for a post! :)

I would definitely suggest talking to the person's hoop friends. My friends and I tend to tell each other what we're wanting to buy. It might be the best way to find out what the person you're buying for wants without actually having to ask them.

Linking to the reviews is a good idea but for someone who isn't a hooper, there are certain things that they might know that they need to look for or avoid. Maybe make a list of things to look for when buying? For example, if you were buying an LED hoop:

- Make sure it doesn't rattle

- Make sure it's counter weighted

etc

* If the person is already a hooper, talk about hoop weight & find out what they like - thats pretty important.

* Dont be cheap for the sake of being cheap.

Ie I get a fair number of people at my market stall who want to buy hoops for a child they know that isnt present. Despite asking me for advice about hoop sizes, and the fact that there are also signs on the hoops stating roughly what age groups the various sizes are for, they almost always opt to buy my smallest childrens hoops because theyre a couple of dollars cheaper than the larger childrens hoops disregarding that the child they want to buy the hoop for is much too big for the smallest sized hoops. I have fixed the problem by making all of my kids hoops the same price, but still thought it was worth a mention.

* Also check how strong the hoop pipe is. This probably isnt so relevant in other parts of the world, but I have seen (some expensive!) hoops made out of cheap crappy pipe that bends and kinks easily and cannot be put back into shape.

* When in doubt, rather than risk buying something which may not be right, consider the gift of money to cover the cost of a new hoop, or a gift voucher to a hoop supply store.
