Last weekend I performed for the first time in front of a large group of people and I must say I enjoyed it much more than I expected ;) I'm about to hit my one year mark of hoop dancing (fok yesss♥) Hooping is one of my greatest passions and I want to expand from my bubble a little bit so what i'm trying to get at is how could I get myself out there to perform for d.js/at clubs/events etc.,? I'm lost as what to say? should I charge? if so, how much? ANY tips would be appreciated*~

Congrats! Performing will only get more addictive from here on out <3
Honestly, what you did is exactly what I did to get into performing. Don't make it about money... Just do it for fun and if someone wants to pay you that's a bonus! I originally started publicly hooping at a monthly drum circle in my city and the second time I went a guy tracked me down (he had remembered me from the first time I went) and asked if I would be willing to perform with his band. I was a very inexperienced hooper at the time, but decided to come along for the ride. I still perform with that band (The Grass Skirts) but after that I guess I got a little more self confidence because I started making friends with people at shows and stuff. Not like I was expecting to get anything out of it, it's just nice to make friends. Then I met a different guy at an Infected Mushroom show and as it turns out he wanted to get into DJing. Long story short, about a year later he and a bunch of his friends who also wanted to DJ decided to make it happen and hired me to gogo hoop for them. Our crew (Acid Crunk Crew) started out small in kind of a crappy venue but we're picking up momentum fast! As of last night we have officially outgrown the venue we were using!
Sorry my head is still spinning from it all... But what I'm trying to say is that you should keep your options open and just be really friendly to the people you meet. And hoop in public as often as you can! You never know where opportunities will arise :D

I totally agree with Phoenix. Hoop in public as often as you can. I wasn't even looking to get back into performing (use to, not with hoop and like 15+ years ago). But people see you, they get interested- stuff happens. Now I get asked for events more & more, which quite truthfully trips me the heck out! I'm even about to start teaching hooping at our local college. And all I started out with was wanting to share my passion for hooping, I love it so much I just want everyone to try! :) As for charging- don't at first. If you are seeking out like that you need to get your name out there too. Contact a few local bands, hoop to their performances, stuff like that. Events- just ask, ya never know. Set a goal & go for it honey! Just NEVER think it's something you can't achieve- as long as you have passion, really go out there with the additive that you can do it- nothing can stop you!  Wishing you lots & lots of happy hooping & luck your way!

Thank you!! i appreciate the help greatly ♥ sadly, i live in a somewhat small town...there isn't clubs or much of any music events at all. I have to drive at least 45 mins to Dallas for fun!  ;( I'll definitely start hooping in public more...maybe i'll get asked to hoop at the family oriented festivals and whatnot that goes on here.

Although, my boyfriend's friend is a d.j and asked me to come hoop for him at the club he's a resident at so i can start there ^-^

small town doesn't matter! I live in a small town too.:) Where hooping is somewhat alien still. *sighs* Defiantly accompany your BF, you never know how things can go! Lots of luck to you.
