I know some of you have had people be rude about your hooping...

So I know some of you have unfortunately  had to deal with rude people while you were out hooping in public... here's my story.

I only recently started hooping in public places, and it still takes a lot of guts for me.  Today was such a gorgeous day though, I just HAD to go to the park and do my thang.

I was in this big grassy park, minding my business, as people went around walking, playing frisbee, whatever.

So there I was, for well over an hour. Then this group of guys shows up wanting to play soccer.

No problem, it's a big park. They were doing their thing at one end of the park for a while, and everything was chill.  I laid down on my towel and was working on hooping on my feet, when I started noticing these shadows over me.  The next thing I know they've come over, and basically set up one of their goals on top of my stuff!!! None of them said a thing to me, in fact they were basically trying to avoid my eyes.

So I commented under my breath about just leaving.

Finally one guy came over with some excuse about how they were tearing up the grass at the other end of the park, so they needed to move. He then INFORMED me that I did not have to leave (even though staying would have meant dealing with random soccer balls flying past my head).

Seriously, none of them could have come up BEFORE and asked if I would mind moving, or trading places with them? You since I was there first and all. Dicks...

I should have just started hooping right in the middle of their game.

At least I felt a tiny bit better, when I was putting my hoops in my car I over heard two women on the sidewalk, and one of them was complaining about the fact that I'd been there for over an hour, and how rude were those boys for making me leave. At least SOME people can see rudeness for what it is.

Anyway, I just really needed to vent to some people I knew would get it.

But this kind of thing makes me not even want to hop in public anymore.  Esp. b/c I have a REALLY hard time keeping my words to myself. *sigh*

That's super lame! It always sucks when people are just inconsiderate.

The other day I was at the park hooping and started getting harassed by preteen boys. They were making cat calls...So weird and unpleasant.

Dude, I've had people be rude about me hooping too, but honestly, the positive feedback and making random little kids ooh and ah and smile is worth it.

Cat calling is pretty bad. Even worse when it's from a group of preteen boys.

And what's up with people trying to bump into you and going, "don't hit me!"? In my case, my hoop is tiny and it was an open space, so no way could it have happened on accident. Either the girl was jealous or a straight up ass.

You should have stayed and just rocked out. If the ball hits you, it's your ball then. I was hooping on my body at a concert, and somehow this chick walked right into my small light hoop. Her cigarette fell inside her beer. She turned around to yell at me, then saw my handicap back brace and didn't say a word. Man, She was going to yell at me for her walking into my hoop? Geez, some people.

I've done some solo hoop performances out in public before and yes..  I got rude remarks.. Some girls would walk by and snarl saying "Oh I could do that. psh" or someone would walk too close when there is plenty of room and they would give me rude glances like I am in their way or whatever. I just shrug it off and have my fun. I don't usually get a good crowd anywhere accept festivals.

Don't stop doing your thang, mama! there's always going to rude inconsiderate people in this life, sadly.

I remember at Nocturnal fest this year i had a LOT of drunk ladies bump into me, some on purpose, i always apologized and hugged them right away, can't be a bitch to someone that hugs you right? lol one girl even tried to grab my led and walk away with it. I didn't let that one slide though. I told her NO! much like the way i talk to my disobedient puppy...and called her a bitch :3

someone actualy tried to steal your LED? if someone did that to me i would go all psycho on them haha xD

Me Too!!!!

Yeah normally I would have ripped into those guys, IDK why I didn't to be honest.

Next time, they won't be getting away so easily!  LOL

Thanks you guys!  <3

Awe, sux they were impolite, but don't let it get to you, hoop in public all you want to. I've notice I tear up the grass when I'm in an area for too long, hehe.

A few days ago, i was hooping in a park while im havin a break of work. There was enough space and not many people around. Until 3 tourist girls came toward me, glancing at me like "oh myyyy, look what terrible thing she's doing!" and spoiled their coke over my hoop.

I think, mostly they act like this, because they can't or won't try to hoop themselves. Just let them pass by and allways remember: Smile, cause they spill their drinks, and we have hoopable coke on our hoops ;)

Sometimes people don't have the confidence to ask for things. If they did have to move and saw you there, these guys might have thought, "oh she's not going to want to move...  we'll just have to make her" and not realize that just being nice and asking politely would work fine too.

Last night I was hunting for a parking spot and FINALLY found one and this guy was just crossing the street and then he stopped RIGHT where I was about to back up. I was like WTF?  Weird?  We roll down the window and he says, "We're parking here" and points to his friends. We ended up driving away but everyone in the car thought that he could have approached it better. He could have come right up to us and said, "Hi guys, I just came over to hold this spot for my friends, we've been driving around for 10 minutes trying to find one. So sorry."

There's a HUGE difference between a full sentence with explanation that is openly given at the beginning of an awkward situation than someone WAITING until the weirdness sets in and THEN saying something.

In the end, it's important to remember that not everyone is as confident OR has ever been given the respect to feel comfortable asking for something they need.   : (

So true.  And perfect example.

Hillary, I know the feeling. People are so rude.  I was hooping and my boyfriend was playing with poi at the Bassnectar show at the Electric Forest.  People were walking right into my hoop and then would say "sorry"  yeah right!!!  I mean we were at the back of the arena.  After repeatedly having my flow interrupted I became an aggressive hooper.  I just started hooping really hard in the direction of someone coming and not letting anyone in our space.  It was working pretty good until this guy came up to me and yelled at the top of his lungs "STOP HOOPING!"

I really wish people would have more respect for other each others space.  And who comes to a Bassnectar show to sit down?  That guy needs to start hooping!  Hillary, never be afraid to voice your opinion, especially if you are right!
