Hi! Im a 16 year old boy. Now, unlike most boys, i have a girl figure XD. But i have a really hard time moving around sometimes due to medical problems with bones and joints and such..I want to hoop though!! I can do devil sticks! I love Dev Stix! Its a passion, hobby, and pastime for me. Heck! Maybe even a career one day! But one of my fav bands at the time, Blood On the Dance Floor, their one vocalist, Jayy Von Monroe was hooping on a video, and i was like..oh my god...1, that is SEXY, and 2, i wanna learn this!!! So my problem is finding out what size and weight to get for a hoop. Im around 5'1 or 5'2ish, 85 lbs, skinny as a twig, somewhat flexible but ehh...the joints kill...im guessint stretching helps with hooping..so I may have to do some on my own time as I am out of gym because of my medical problems..I have found a website called Troo Hoops. they seem really good to me. detachable and customizable. I dig it. But i dont know if I need a small, medium, or large. i doubt large so that narrows it down..as for weights, they have sport and dance. i would think dance, but as I am new to this, i have no clue..Any suggestions? Here is a link to their site, im pretty stuck on this brand for starting out. The idea of it being able to unsnap and all that, i love. i am getting the quarto 4 piece hoop, please look at the graph and info and tell me what I should get, either S or M, and Sport or Dancer weight! thanks!!

lol your so skinny compared to me, but we have the same height. My first hoop was 37'', I think you would be fine with a 36'' hoop, you could go 39'' if you want it to spin slower. However, after a quick look at their site, including shipping you looking at a $50 hoop. If you don't want to make a big investment try shopping around etsy.com for a hoop that's collapsible.

If your joints are an issue, you'll want to (or need to) move a little more slowly so a bigger hoop might be more comfortable for you, so I'd say the M is a good choice. The Sport weight is good if you want to build muscle and mainly keep the hoop around your waist. Dance weight will keep you from bruising and be more versatile if you want to do "off-body" tricks.
Be careful not to overdo your hooping sessions. I know that after a long, instense session (a few hours or more) I often ache all over, and especially in my aging creaky hips and ouchy feet.
As for stretching, a program of gentle yoga is a good accompaniment to hooping or any sport, really. If you know some yoga already, you can download some 20 minute practices for free form YogaDownoad.com. If you are new to yoga, a class with an instructor will get you started on the right path and ensure you don't hurt yourself.
Whatever hoop you get, enjoy it!

Permalink Reply by Troo Hoops on November 9, 2011 at 9:28am Hi! Awesome. We think you should go with a 39" dance weight due to bruising and joints. Call us if you have more questions.1-877-371-7070 / 212-941-0060
Its always a good idea to consult a physician about hooping if some issues. We want you to be safe.
