Hey. I don't know if this has happened to any of you, though I'm guessing I'm not the only one. I find myself in a hooping slump. Everyday I think to myself, "i should hoop today." And then I come up with a million other stupid things to do instead... like watch tv, or sit on the internet. I just can't seem to get motivated. I even bought some of SaFire's classes and I don't even feel like watching those. IDK what is wrong with me. I'd rather make hoops than play with them right now. I don't want to have to force myself to hoop but I almost feel like that is what it is coming down to. Ugh. Anyone out there go through the same thing? Any advice?

Find new upbeat tunes to hoop to, and then blare them when you recognize you are feeling lazy. I use this technique to motivate myself to do most everything. Andrew W.K. traditionally does the trick, but right now Sleigh Bells is on the move to most played.
Wow. I never thought of hooping to AWK... but I loooove sleighbells. Don't own them yet, but might just have to purchase that soon....
Yeah I think I may buy it too, since the day will come when I can no longer stream it online. I think its worth getting on vinyl.
Of course you are not alone! In fact there have been several threads on the subject.

My favorite motivation technique is brand new music, next to that a new toy (different size hoop, say) or new challenge (multis for instance.) If you have hooping friends, plan a get-together-- that's a sure fire motivator.

Oh-- & be sure you make the first few sessions after a lull pure jam joy. Forget about tricks & practice drills. Just dance your heart out!

Most of all though, just put on some music, pick up the hoop & go through the motions even if you don't think you want to. Sometimes all it takes is getting started. I bet your body will reward you with a nice dose of hoop bliss!
I agree with everything you just said. after I wrote this post, I was thinking that I just need to close out the world and jam. That is what I need to do. Thanks :)
I feel that way once in a while when i feel stuck on learning some tricks, but don't try to put the pressure on yourself, you just need a lil break, and you'll be back with flying colors =) Good luck hun!
Thanks babe. I guess I'm just a little down in the dumps. Between the crappy weather (and by crappy I mean either 1million degrees with 110% humidity OR torrential downpours and biblical style flooding) and my insane allergies.... I haven't gotten outside much. I guess I need to just forgive myself and get over it. You're right, I need to stop with the pressure. Thanks :)
I am going thru some downtime with hooping as well. Seriously, I blame it all on the heat. I can't hoop for more than 5 minutes without sweat dripping down my face. I'm hoping to start hoopin regularly again once it cools down. hang in there, you are not alone!!
Thanks sweetie.
Slumps are a normal part of any creative activity. Use them as a break to revive your enthusiasm. Painters, writers, and musicians go through the same cycles of creative output and quiet lulls.

Let this time flow. Don't force yourself to hoop; that's not fun at all. Unless you have a contract to hoop, you can skip hooping for as long as you like. It's ok.

At some point, you'll feel like hooping again. The right motivator will find you. Don't stress about it.

In the meantime, if you want some hoop-related activities you can continue to make hoops, dream up some choreography, glue glitter to all your t-shirts, or put the hooping aside totally and sit inside with a cold beverage and a book until you are in the mood again.
Love this! Can I come live with you?
I'm in a hooping slump right now too- I'm just not ready to go outside and hoop(my house isn't big enough to hoop inside) although it's beautiful outside all of my neighbors come and talk to me or watch and it is actually kind of irritating for some reason... I just want to be alone with the hoop but that's not really possible right now.. oofda. Good luck with your slump! :) <3's
