I'm only a couple months into hooping and I've been trying to learn isolations, by searching though youtube and forms. It's been super difficult to learn the gist of it. I know two basic moves where you do a simple iso with one hand, and another simple one with two hand (by hoopsmile). I was wondering if anyone knew any youtube tutorials on isolations and how to understand or do any of them?!? I am completely at a lost! PLEASE & THANK YOU's :)

As of right now, i am trying to learn linear isolation. But anything is good for me!

From personal experience...isos take A LOT of practice. I spent about 3 months one winter getting them to look okay...and that was only in one direction. Be patient with yourself, it's a tough move!

Allyssa is right.  I am still learning and feel like I never get it right after 5 months of a lot of practice. If you haven't seen this tutorial: This one was fairly easy to learn (for me) and I felt accomplished in learning one type of isolation finally!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz05utrJ48Q  (the cat eye) KatieBug has more isolation tutorials that maybe you can pick up on more quickly than I did.  Totally be patient because the amount of arm and hand strength as well as timing is (for me) would be considered fairly intermediate!  I was thinking about signing up for the Brecken Waves class since it is 20% off.  As Safire's tutorials are super quality and verbally articulate from what I have seen and heard.  So I assume since this online workshop is offered by Safire it is good as well.  Awesome pic by the way Allyssa!

Hey thanks! It was my first hoopin photoshoot <3

Here are few old threads on the same topic which includes a couple of vids

isolation tutorial thread 1

isolation tutorial thread 2

Rich Porter has posted a free tutorial on the web page for Hoop Technique; I've downloaded it and found it help me a great deal.

Rich Porter's 2 hand isolation tutorial

Caroleeena also posts great tutorials.

When I was learning them, practicing in a mirror helped a lot. Do you know anyone else that hula hoops? Sometimes learning in-person is easier than via tutorial. But isolations are tricky just keep at it, when you nail it you're gonna feel so awesome and proud. Goodluck & happy hoopin! :))

Thank you so much for the amazing feedback! It's really encouraging!!

Here's a fun move you can do with isolations I've dubbed the Stop Light Isolation. Check out the video on my website!
