mmmkay. So, I'm finally figuring out how to do some pretty cool stuff. But I think what I'm desperately in need of is some moves that allow me to get the hoop gracefully from the horizontal plane to a vertical plane.

Any suggestions?

amen! transitions are my weak point too... I wish I could give u some advice! Hopefully other people will have some for the both of us :)
Well, it depends what you are transfering from and to. But off of the top of my head... if you had the hoop up in Laso, you could spin around as you bring the hoop down and around in front of you into a verical spin. Does that help? mmmkay? hehe :) Hoops are bad!
got some video? wink wink?
Caroleen's hand hooping tutorial really briefly touches on transitions between minutes 4 and 5. I remember first seeing it and going "oooooh, that's easy enough....why didn't I think of it!"

So if you're in lasso, hooping above your head, the hoop rolls over the sides of your hand. To begin pulling it down close your hand around the hoop each rotation and start bringing your arm down, either in fron or to the side. It usually takes me 5-6 rotations before the hoop evens out on the verticle plane. I like to bring it down to the side then do a couple of step-throughs.

The helicopter (one of safire's original youtube tutorials) is great for changing planes too, because the hoop is both vertical and horizontal as you spin it around your body. I just stop the helicopter on which ever plane I want to be.

I hope this helps! Nothing I do is very fancy. If I need to change planes I tend to listen for a break in the music, strike a pose, and flip the hoop to whichever angle I need.
i would agree the helicoptor is a great transition tool i would like to give more insight but im working onthe same thing lol i usually stop or just make a messy transition =oP i like to do the fish tail where you weave it in front of you from side to side and thats a good tranz for isolations etc hoped that helped. try recording yourself and you may get some ideas from seeing your moves
oh thanks! This was very helpful.
:)
