Have any of you hoopers experienced lucid dreaming?

Lucid dreaming is where you realize you are dreaming, then manipulate what happens in the dream.

Since I was a kid, I could control my dreams.  It started off at first becoming a way to release myself from those scary dreams you have as a kid.  I would realize I was dreaming, blink my eyes three times, and then I would awaken.  I practiced this so much that every time I blinked my eyes three times, no matter what, I would wake up.  I didn't even know what these were called until I started to become interested in Metaphysics.

Once I researched deeper into the subject, I began to manipulate my dreams in other ways.  My favorite thing to do while lucid dreaming is fly.  I've talked to some other lucid dreamers that fly, and it is amazing the different techniques;  I flap my arms like a bird, others fly like super man.  Do you fly in your lucid dreams?

I have also travelled to places in a few dreams.  One in particular I remember being somewhere, realizing I was dreaming, and saying to myself "I want to be in the rainforest."  I opened my eyes, and wah-lah... I was in the rainforest.  I played around with this concept and drifted from placee to place, ending up at some bumping rave at a club somewhere.  It was pretty amazing.

Ways to develop lucid dreaming awareness:

-be conscious of everything around you in your everyday life:  look at things more closely; remember the placement of furniture, items, pictures

-flip light switches on-off a few times (light switches usually do not work in dreams)

-study your hands (this is a big one- a lot of times your hands look monsterous.  I remember the first time I trained myself to look at my hands in a dream- crazy!!)

-repeat to yourslef a lucid dreaming mantra before bed.  A few are "I will be conscious in my dreamstate," "I ask to be aware within my dreams," "please allow me to recognize my lucidity tonight," etc.

-the best times for lucid dreaming are a) times when you are usually awake but continue to sleep and b) right after briefly waking up.

-take the time to research dreams if this is something you are interested in.

Lucid dreaming is a wonderful way to explore the abilities of your mind.  I have also used lucid dreaming as a sort of stress-relief technique.  I always go flying whenever I realize I am dreaming.  It is a beautiful feeling you cannot experience other than when dreaming.

I have not been able to perfect my lucid dreaming, even after years of practice.  I hope to one day lucid dream on command.  That would be awesome.

Now, I know there will possibly be a lot of skeptics of this subject out there (my boyfriend included).  So please be courteous of those of us who are piqued by this phenomena.

So what are your thoughts on the subject at hand?  Have you ever lucid dreamed?  If not, are you interested?  There are a ton of great resources online and in books.

I wanted to get a new perspective on "awakened dreaming" from a group I think will be more open and interested, due to our creative and explorative nature :).

Peace.

***** I just wanted to let everyone know, since this seemed like a popular thread, I have created a group for us dreamers to talk and discuss the beautiful power of dreams.  Come and join!!*****

I fly!! And when my friends are in my dreams, I teach them how to fly with me!!

When I realize I'm alseep, I feel as though I am squeezing my brain or something ... concentrating very hard.

But after what feels like a half an hour or so I lose concentration and relax, lose control of why dream and it ALWAYS turns into a nightmare...men chasing me with guns!!!??? WHY!?
How do you fly? Do you flap your arms? I always thought it was weird I was the only one who flapped their arms haha. You should try the three blink method to wake yourself up. It still works for me to this day!!
Haha, no... I just spread 'em..
thanks!

Damn I am still the only one!!  :P

I loooove flying when I realize I'm dreaming. I don't flap my arms lol... but there have been times that I start to fall and I flap or kind of like do swimming motions to go back up or change directions haha. Flying's the best :)
I kinda flap my arms, but its more like when they fly in the old peterpan movie where you can see the strings like gently wafting upwardslol! I haven't been able to control my dreams for a looong time. But itstarted as a kid the same way you did, I had a kids book about baddreams and how to change your dreams to happy non scary ones, still tothis day when my son has nightmares or gets scared I tell him aboutthat book! I never remember my dreams when I wake up. I used to keep adream journal, i still have it but it hasn't been written in a longtime, its kinda sad actually. I bought a book about interpreting yourdreams just before Christmas and have yet to actually remember evendreaming let alone what the dreams were about. I think that is odd butI bet I'm not the only one that doesn't remember what goes on when I'msleeping anymore lol!
ALSO!!
Sometimes I drink sleepy time tea... once I had "calm" instead and as soon as I closed my eyes I was lucid dreaming... it was weird and it scared me... haha, it was weird!
Hmm... I will have to try this "calm tea." Is it made by the same company as the sleepy time?
wait no, Tension Tamer! I think there is more chamomile...
I know I mentioned something about this in a reply to you before, but I love lucid dreaming! I can do it more easily when I document my dreams in a journal though. It's like my brain realizes I need to remember it, so I become aware of the dream and can control it easier. Lately I haven't been journaling my dreams as much so I haven't had much lucid dreaming but it's super fun. The best one I ever had was one where I was not only able to control what I did, but where I had full-blown authorship of the dream. It was some murder mystery in a hospital and I couldn't figure out who I wanted to be the murderer so until I did we kept running into dead ends... eventually I turned it into this crazy silent-hill type video game boss fight since I wanted something dramatic to end it. I'll never forget that, I hope it happens again sometime. I can almost replicate when I wake up from a dream and force myself back to sleep, but it hasn't been that vivid again.
Hmm... I don't remember that. But I am glad you joined the conversation. I, too have found that when I do not write in my dream journal, I definately lucid dream less. I have been so stressed out recently, I haven't lucid dreamt in a while now. I miss it.

That is a crazy dream!! I have never been able to control the concept of the dream, just what I do and where I go. I would love to have a dream like yours!!

I love having a good dream and waking up, then falling back asleep and continuing. I remember being a little girl and dreaming about a prince and I kept waking up like five times, but I continued it each time... amazing..
yay cool disscussion im in a super hurry right now dont have much time to talk about it but il be back soon! hope this discussion stays up top!
