Hey Hoopers! So I wanted to bring this up because it seems to come up a lot in the hoop world. I meet hoopers all the time, and almost every hooper actually, who says- or a friend of theirs mentions- that they make hoops.

"I make my own hoops" or I hear "That hooper doesnt even make there own hoops"

After thinking about it, I personally believe that its 'cooler' to hear from a hooper where there hoop is from. Not that they made it. EVERYONE-ANYONE can make hoops, but a collection of hoops from all over is more impressive to me. I love name dropping my brands of hoops, although I do make my own, the ones I make I do not have a connection with. I sell or give them away regularly. Now the hoops I buy, and I usually buy hoops that cost more than the average $25 cuz I know quality and materials, I have such a connection with most are on my walls. And I do get crazy if someone tries to use one of my goods ones, but I usually avoid that situation by bringing only my beater hoops out- the hoops I make!

Would you agree with me or not? Id love to hear!

If you come to my house Ill give you a tour of the hoops Ive purchased "These are from psi.com, this is my old school hoopnotica, this ones from Surka Noelle, this one DJ MattCole made, these are from my boston girls, this ones from mexico, this ones from Valentina Unity, this ones from Hooping Harmony, these ones are from Cosmic Fire, this ones from Hollistic Hoops"

the list goes on!

OH YA! Im not doubting or denying anyones art making abilities! In fact if you post your hoop making url Ill probably buy a hoop!!!

Im just saying that people should open their minds to other peoples hoops and not think they have to make there own! Theres so many beautiful hoop makers out there! Lets all buy and trade-support the community!

I'm a really creative/artistic person, so the fact that I don't make my own hoops surprises a lot of my friends. But with hoops, it's easier (to me) to buy a pre-made hoop in the perfect size rather than go out and buy all the materials myself. I'll re-tape a hoop myself, sure, but I just don't have any interest in buying bulk tubing and connectors and what have ya.
I'd love to make my own hoops, but I keep myself from buying the things to make them on purpose because...
1. I know me. If I go buy the stuff, I will buy a LOT of stuff, and i will end up with a million hoops for no reason. I'm trying to keep myself from buying needless hoops, and getting the most out of whatever size I have before I move onto another one.
2. I don't have enough interest in people wanting to buy hoops to justify having all that stuff. I already make bath bombs on the side, and my small 1 bedroom apt is already over run with crap from that, if I had 100 feet of irrigation tubing and hoops all over the place I don't think I'd be able to walk.
3. I don't plan on making a job out of selling hoops, so i'd rather support someone else who is.
Well, for me as a complete noob to the hooping world, I had no idea there was such a large community here until recently. Prior to that I just knew I had to have hoops and I realized I needed different sizes to accommodate not only my needs but to share with friends and family. The ONLY person I knew that hooped lives in Colorado and I am in Illinois. Here, the only people I know that hoop are the ones I've introduced it to! Economically, it was way more feasible to get supplies and begin making hoops. Supplies are readily available at my local Lowe's and my budget has still never allowed me to splurge on getting hoops from other sources. It is still a distant dream! I haven't even been able to get proper "hoop tape" yet either - also a dream. But I make do with electrical and duck tape and I love my hoops and they work great. Now that I am a member here, it catches me off guard when I read comments from people that have had problems purchasing hoops or trouble with the hoops when they get them....so I have begun to wonder if I should still endeavor to purchase a pre-made hoop. ??? Any thoughts?

I started making my own hoops when my local supplier moved to China to teach. I've purchased a lot of tape and a lot of tubing and I've made a dozen or more hoops (most of which I have given to other people as gifts.)  I get so much joy from hooping that I want to share it with others and giving them hoops for birthdays and Christmas is a good way for me to do that.

That being said, I will be purchasing my LED hoop and not making it. :D

And might I add that Vikki makes very good hoops in Beautiful color combos!

:)  I like playing with color.

I've never made a hoop. I'm sure I will someday, but really, the tubing I like isn't available in Canada anyway.
My first hoop was from my sister in law's friend. My next 3 or 4 hoops were made by Snowzilla and are amazing, but I also have a couple Sacred Flame hoops from Slang that I love more than anything. I have another one on order and I actually dreamed last night of the next one that I want, so I might have to order that today : They're poly pro, and so beautiful, with the most amazing mystical designs... I want to hoop in beautiful sacred geometry, rather than my own home made job that would be alright, but nothing like what Slang does. She has tape you can't find anywhere else!

When I first started hooping I made my own hoops because, like someone else mentioned, I didn't know there was a hooping community or where to buy them.  But I read tutorials about how to make your own. I think this was a perfect way for me to start, I bought a roll each of 3/4" 160psi and 1/2" 120psi...200ft of tubing makes a lot of hoops so I was able to make different sizes and experiment.  I tried my hand at making an LED hoop but ran into so many obstacles and had issues with battiers for the price it took me to make my own I could've bought a better one from someone else.  I thought about making my own fire hoop but decided not to replicate the LED fiasco.  So after I bought my LED, fire, polypro, and HDPE hoops I fell in love.  I have no desire to make my own hoops anymore - but having made my own I have plenty of beaters on hand for jams which is a bonus. But I definatley respect other people's hoop skills and like you, take pride in my collection from great hoopers.

In the beginning, when I first heared of (and saw) hooping people on youtube I was sure that would be great fun for me to learn. But I'm not very sportive and so it would be so sad to buy an expensive Hoop and it'll be just laying around and not used, if I don't like (or don't be able to) Hooping. So for me it was the best to made one for my own.

Now, a few weeks ago, I ordered my first Hoops and I'm so happy about it! I like mine as well, but now I have some really pretty ones and, I'm sure about, also made with love!

I should add that I like the crafty aspect of trying different taping patterns and types of tape to make them really pretty.
There are at least two or three hoop stores that I'm eyeing for one day purchases because they do things with the hoop decorations that I don't feel like at all.
