I've had my moodhoops led hoop since Christmas. I haven't used it too much and I've had it laying flat under my bed for a while, I take it out and play with it once every week or so. Now, my problem is that I've started noticing the grip tape coming off. I pat and smooth it back down but every few days it will pop back up.
Has this happened to anyone else? I know that tape isn't supposed to last forever but I expect it to stay on a bit longer than this. And I get the feeling that soon dust will get stuck to the tape and I'll no longer be able to smooth is back over.
Should I just remove the tape, let it come off on it own, or what?

Permalink Reply by Toni Oertel on April 2, 2012 at 9:49am grip tape is cheap. I always keep some on hand to re-do my hoops if need be. Whenever it starts to come off, I just take it off and re-do it.

Yes remove and retape. You will have to do it sooner or later, check out ebay for gaffer or hockey tape deals. goodbuyguys.com is a good source of tape.
Permalink Reply by Randy Kato on April 2, 2012 at 1:23pm If it's a single strip on the inside of the hoop, and you decide to re-tape it that way, the key is to not stretch the tape when you put it on. If you stretch it, it will try to contract back to it's original length, essentially pulling itself off of the hoop.

Another option is to cut some slits in the tape so instead of one long piece going all the way around it's shorter pieces. Pull it up and tape it back down, making sure not to stretch it. It'll relieve the tension so it'll stop coming up.
Permalink Reply by Hailey King on April 7, 2012 at 6:47pm I had the exact same problem with the mood hoop I got for Christmas. I would try to stick it back down, but that just created ridges in the tape. I checked out some local shops for tape, but nothing I found looked or felt like the tape that came on it. So, I sent mood hoops a message about this and a few days later 3 (used) rolls of tape arrived on my doorstep - free of charge! Since I don't have prior experience with taping, I just snipped off the stretched part and replaced that section with new tape. Worked well and I still have enough tape left to redo the whole hoop if I need to. Actually - I debated wrapping a swirl around it for extra grip, but decided not to because the tape leaves a pretty sticky residue on the tubing. I find my the hoop to be really slippery and and don't use it much because of this. Anyone have advice for how/where to add more tape to it? Is sanding an option (its HDPE)?
